They don't appear to be a safety hazard; there are slits on the sides to provide movement (and a glimpse of the suggested pants underneath, which to me, makes the skirt a moot point, but that's neither here nor there), and the fabric looks light. I think I would have to actually try one or see a ski skirt in action to determine whether or not they are a "safety hazard."

While I would be the first to object if they were just wearing skirts (especially full or heavy skirts), since the garment is made to be functional, I'm alright with it. The way it's made, it's unlikely to go flying over anyone's head. And, if the woman wearing it follows the website's suggestion to wear wind pants or ski pants underneath, then even if it flew up, they wouldn't be showing anymore than the woman who shows up in only wind or ski pants.
Me, personally, I would just wear ski pants, although I've never been (yet--I'm still nagging Jeff about this), but I have no problem with people who do their best to balance modesty and athletics appropriately.
The fact that something looks different from the norm isn't a good enough reason to rule out its use.

If/when you go, be careful!! I have a permanently really bad knee from a very simple fall. It doesn't take much to get pretty messed up.

You've never been skiing, right? That flappy extra material could get caught in something while you're skiing at 40mph, plus, and get you killed. I would be surprised if it would be allowed at the slopes that are near here....

She usually is filled with common sense ... but that simple fact stood out to me.

If you're going to beaches and/or cruises where nearly everyone is wearing two-piece bikinis or "stringy-thingys" you might want to consider hanging out in different places. You might see something you shouldn't!

Your "fixation" is not so much what you are wearing - but what you think all others should wear...
LOL! I am not talking about nude or topless beaches. Just what we have experienced at mainstream beaches and on the cruise ship pool decks.
I don't design the dress code at these places, but as I said there is a level of maturity needed and one must be willing to accept others who are outside what they are normally familiar with. You may not be ready.

I'm sorry! Jeff and I aren't daredevils, so we would probably never even be tempted to make it off the beginner slopes. I'm kind of accident prone...last year's Christmas present (ice skating lessons) landed me in bed for a couple of weeks recovering from a back injury. (I followed my instructor's direction, and tried to do a one-leg-something-or-other--I ended up planting both knees *firmly* on the ice <--that part still makes me cringe --and my head into the rink's sidewall. Stupid, stupid, stupid!)
The good news, though...I now own my very own ice skates and I can glide around the ice looking passably cool.

No, I've never been, so I really don't know. <----I like the penguin.

And this makes me hurt just thinking of the potential of a knee or back injury which I already have. Things sure have changed for me with a little age...

Who said anything about nude or topless? Do you have fixation?
This all seems so inconsistent. If these places are filled with people who are dressed in an ungodly, revealing way, rather than trying to find some costume to wear there, wouldn't it just be better to stay away?

The crazy thing is.....I AM a daredevil and I've done the craziest things in history on a bike. Never got hurt. The first time I went skiing, I went to the top of the mountain, the expert hill, and started there. Never got a scratch.
The next time I went skiing, I went to the bunny slope (beginners and kids), and while almost standing still, slipped on ice, the bindings didn't release, and many around me could hear the ligaments pop. It was gruesome.
