By the way, they call him Saint Thomas Aquinas. He didn't have a Doctorate. The Catholics called him Doctor of the church. It was doctor defined as teacher.
ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!! But since you brought it up!!!
So Thomas did not attend University of Paris? Master's Degree studies there, during which time he wrote Commentary on the Senteces and On Being and Essence? You sure? Didn't write his doctoral dissertation on "The Majesty of Christ?" Are you sure about what you're saying there, Coadie?

Albertus then appointed the reluctant Aquinas magister studentium. After failing in his first theological disputation, Albertus prophetically exclaimed: "We call him the dumb ox, but in his teaching he will one day produce such a bellowing that it will be heard throughout the world."
Fifty years after the death of Aquinas, Pope John XXII, seated in Avignon, pronounced Thomas a saint. [1] Aquinas' theology had begun its rise to prestige. Two centuries later, in 1567, Pope Pius V proclamied St. Thomas Aquinas a Doctor of the Church and ranked his feast with those of the four great Latin fathers: Ambrose, Augustine of Hippo, Jerome, and Gregory. However, in the same period the Council of Trent would still turn to Duns Scotus before Thomas as a source of arguments in defence of the Church. Even though Duns Scotus was more consulted than Thomas at the Council of Trent, Aquinas had the honor of having his Summa Theologica placed on the altar alongside the Bible and the Decretals.

The passion for Saint Thomas Aquinas brings out the
Romish part of people.
Talk about slow. I have seen kids take 8 years to get a degree.
Doctor Angelicus (the Angelic Doctor) and Doctor Communis or Doctor Universalis (the Common or Universal Doctor) Is this like a doctor of letters alGore had bestowed on him? SAINT Thomas was a prolific writer of essays.
Did a good job of meshing philosophy with religion for da Romish religion.
What is the latest on the grapevine for Bro Barnaby?

Coadie, google may have finally failed you today, my friend. Reading the article you quoted may have led to some confusion about the good doctor...but he was in his lifetime a thoroughly educated man in real live universities.

He was very highly educated. I am not confused. Google hasn't let me down.
I also realize he did a lot of reading. Having said that, the printing press was invented after he was gone. Today a scholar uses random access methods and get behind pay walls and read all kinds of research. Wasn't he in Paris? How could he read a book the university didn't have on the shelf?
Who catelogged their abstracts back then? in his time libraries were very small.

Very simple ... we've had this discussion before, Skippy ... you say "I goofed" ... "I now realize he had a Master's degree and his doctorate given to him posthumously" ...
Quote:
n 1252 Aquinas went to Paris for the master's degree, but met with some difficulty owing to attacks on the mendicant orders by the professoriate of the University. Ultimately, however, he received the degree and entered upon his office of teaching in 1257; he taught in Paris for several years and there wrote some of his works and began others. In 1259 he was present at an important chapter of his order at Valenciennes. At the solicitation of Pope Urban IV (therefore not before the latter part of 1261), he took up his residence in Rome. In 1269-71 he was again active in Paris. In 1272 the provincial chapter at Florence empowered him to found a new studium generale at such place as he should choose, and he selected
Naples.
People respect that ... rather than going down a rabbit trail.
If not, it becomes meaningless, random drivel.

I'm not sure we can even find our way out of the rabbit hole at this point.
I believe that he has some difficulties but received his Bachelor, Masters, and Doctorate degrees while he was alive and well.
I wonder if we can do a "Six degrees of Separation" type thing to get back to Barnaby. We should be able to, since it seems we were able to get from Barnaby to Thomas Aquinas in two.
