Even when I was IN the UPC, no one was going to tell me who I could and could not invite into my pulpit. If I had confidence in a man and felt that he should come and preach, I would invite him. I didn't want to cause trouble and I didn't flaunt the fact that I would invite anyone I wanted, but it's NO ONE else's business who I have preach for me.

Preachers have always been regulated .... but perhaps the teacher loophole will now be mended?
So long, John Maxwell?

The UPC church I grew up in on a yearly basis would have a speaker from the Gideon organization come and speak in a Sunday morning service -- guess that's a problem now.

Also, the community churches come together (Pentecostal, Church of God, Baptist and Methodist) for a Thanksgiving service. The host church rotates from year to year and the pastors will speak in a church other than their own. So can the UPC pastor not allow one of the other ministers to speak in his pulpit any more? And can he not speak in the other churches?

If you're part of an organization shouldn't you adhere to what the organization votes into law? I do believe that a minister should be free to have who ever the Lord leads him to place behind the sacred desk, but if that same minister holds license with an organization that decided (by vote) to not allow certain conditions to happen, then shouldn't that minister comply? Isn't that what the conference floor is all about? All the voting members coming together to vote on issues. No one man making law and no one has a say, these issues are voted on by the group who show up to the conference. I guess all those who hold license should be heading to the state of Florida. Hey you all we be there right in hurricane season.

In Jesus name

Well ... AM could at least be told by a brave board member that JM is not an "affiliated" teacher ....

also I'd imagine an argument could be made that only affiliated teachers could be used at all district level events ....

I think both resolutions could be used to disqualify them too from ever being invited.
