I agree. Our language has been hijacked and I'm sure that MTV has something to do with it. But, I'm also sure Comedy Central, Disney and our late night talks shows - David Letterman - are also part and parcel. It's society collectively, IMO.

Remember when "queer" just meant "strange". Now you can't say, "That's queer."

I would never use that word now. I have no problem with PCism. Doesn't bother me at all. I make every attempt to broaden the horizon of my effectiveness. Why use a word that's going to bother someone? I don't think it matters whether or not it SHOULD bother them. If it does, it does. Stay away from it.

As as for the "make love" pastor....I know he meant nothing by it. But it was so fun to see everyone get all squirmy when he said it!

Re: The most controversial pastor in North America

I'm not fond of the PC stuff and always picking the most fluffy and soft words to use. I have much harsher edges than my Pastor and Asst. Pastor who both are great at softening things up so as not to offend.

It takes all kinds. Some people will not respond to soft stuff. Some people do not get it unless you hit them in the head with it or just tell it as blunt as you can.

Speaking of PC filters, someone just used the term "ghetto mentality" in another thread. Does that make anyone else uncomfortable, or am I being hyper-sensitive?

Re: The most controversial pastor in North America

I think it's fine to try not to use words that might offend people, but on the other hand I don't think this "offendedness" needs to be encouraged. On the one hand - be more considerate. On the other hand - quit being so easily offended. Not everyone sees everything from your world view, or has your filter. Tolerance should have two sides.
