The reason it flopped is they wanted rio. Obama is a bad salesman. He told the IOC why we wanted it and forgot to tell the IOC reasons it would benefit the IOC. Obama violated 3 rules of selling.

I've heard more than once on news reports, that host cities haven't made a dime with the Olympics ... it always results in massive deficits, which is something we don't need. The last thing AMERICA needs is to have to bail Chicago out because of some stupid world games.

You think hundreds of people unemployed now ... think of thousands after the games because of the deficits it would create.

Remember the corruption and thievery in the Salt Lake Winter Games back in 2002? It was so bad through the late 1990's that they were almost ready to move the games. That's when Mitt Romney was appointed and he cleaned the whole thing up in time to have the games as scheduled. And they were a huge success.

Can you imagine a Chicago run Olympic Games? It'd be worse than the 1919 World Series in Chicago.

Honestly, after the spectacle and pageantry that China put on, I would not want to host the Olympics for some time. Let's wait a while until some other people lower the bar a bit

I hadn't even thought about that, but no kidding ... that was an incredible show China put on for the opening and closing ceremony. They really had the best games I've seen in a long time.

When I went and read the entire statement and saw that she started with Olga and Nadia (two women who were dominant while she was in elementary school), it made it all at least understandable.
If the first scenario had been true, I would have said that the statement was inexplicable...as it stands she is likely guilty of poor sentence structure in a speech. I don't now see it as an attempt to mislead in any way.

Olga is from Belarus and Nadia was Romanian... this was during the hight of the cold war...

Now that is a point that I'm sure noone but Ferd picked up on . It is interesting though. Those games were obviously before my time, but I understand that these women were the stories of their respective games. However, it is interesting that she didn't name the American women of the games that occurred at that time in her life. Is anyone aware of whether there were dominant American women or women of other nationalities at those games?

What took place in the early morning hours of July 27 left a lasting memory on the Atlanta Games. For the first time in 24 years, terrorism reared its ugly head at the Olympics.
