I'll have to edit that wikipedia.org article. The Assemblies of God were founded when E.N. Bell published a call for all brethren of the "Apostolic Faith" to meet in Arkansas in 1914 to form a fellowship of Spirit filled believers. The was posted in Bell's popular magazine/newsletter called the Pentecostal Evangel. This magazine would become the official voice of the new AoG and is called the Evangel still today.

Upon checking it out, wikipedia has the rather speculative and confusing statement:

You can read Bell's Evangel and Goss's Word and Witness from 1913 through the Hot Springs General Conference in 1914 and see how the announcements went out.

And you'd have to be a lot older than I've imagined you to be to have been kicked out of the AoG in 1916. Besides, shouldn't you just let it go now? 92 years is a long time for a man to hold a grude - even for a Texan.

Sure they threw you out of the auditorium and onto the rain slicked streets that night. Your dapper zoot suit was ruined and you lost your fob, while your handsome straw "Barbershop Quartet" style hat was crushed beneath a passing carriage. But we helped you to your feet and got you a hot cup of 'joe for a nickle. You remember that night, don't you?

Now look at us today... no hats, trim (or baggy) suits, and we gave up our fobs when we got Real Holiness® in the 1950's.
