Wow..I'll try not to be offended. Really. I guess working 2 jobs (40 hours a week) and going to school full time while parenting 4 kids is being a bum just cuz I happen to use (and need) welfare right now.
You do realize that *most* of us who use the system, truly need it to keep our heads above water. We're legitimate, hard working individuals and families who can't quite get from bottom to on our feet without some help. We suffer because of those who won't work, those who lie, those who abuse the system, and suffer more than anyone who's just paying into the system (some of us even pay into it while on it), but I really don't have time or energy to care right now.
FWIW, I am all for privatizing welfare. I just don't think it'd work cuz of the attitudes most of the working world has about those of us who need the help. I wish it would work though, privatized assistance could actually meet a family where they are and give them the help they need vs giving them some cookie cutter, doesn't quite work, or the requirements themselves prevent them from getting ahead sort of "assistance". It'd cost a LOT less to meet the actual need vs giving aid based on some formula someone who's never met the families makes up.

Don't be offended, was not my intent. Fact is I believe you are in the minority. Most of the time those who truly need it are denied while those who abuse it hardly have to wait in line. I also believe you are wrong about the working world. We all understand fully that if I could give you $20 it will mean you get $20..where as now, I have to pay $40 just so you can get $20 of it. Also the taxes on businesses would be cut meaning the things you need (food, diapers, etc.) would be cheaper, making it easier for you to make it on less.
Many disagree because they don't see the immediate effects. They say lets do something that solves it right now so we can look good and our kids and grandkids can foot the bill later.
Honestly , no offense nahkoe, I have admired your strength and courage since my first day here and reading your story. My mother also done as you. From the childs viewpoint I know what you do and have the uttmost respect for you.
God bless you and yours.

Re: What Are Your Political Leanings-Really!
I used because I know you didn't intend for offense to be taken.
I definitely know that those who abuse the system can get emergency food stamps, same day. But it took me 45 full days last time I applied. This other family I'm thinking of, had two incomes (not wealthy by any means, but INCOME) while I had none.
I wonder what the actual figures are. I really don't think $20 of the $40 a person pays into welfare actually makes it to a person or family in need in any form. I think there's far more overhead than that.
I had a big long post typed out, but this really isn't the thread for it. lol
I really wish privatizing welfare was a valid suggestion. Maybe someday.

I was conservative too, but I worked for the Republican party for several years and read the platform of the party... I vote that way because I am truly a conservative. lol
You would be surprised of the people who vote for either one or the other party, and have not a clue what the parties stand for.

I know, I just wanted to make sure you knew exactly where I stand. I wisper a heart tug prayer everytime I see your post. I know your reward will be great one day, but it saddens me that we as a race don't do more for you.

Re: What Are Your Political Leanings-Really!
ACCORDING TO YOUR ANSWERS,
The political group that
agrees with you most is...
CENTRIST
CENTRISTS espouse a "middle ground" regarding government
control of the economy and personal behavior. Depending on
the issue, they sometimes favor government intervention
and sometimes support individual freedom of choice.
Centrists pride themselves on keeping an open mind,
tend to oppose "political extremes," and emphasize what
they describe as "practical" solutions to problems.

Re: What Are Your Political Leanings-Really!
Well I'm not in the least bit suprised. But then it was a few years ago that I realised that I was more aligned with the Libertarian party than any other.
ACCORDING TO YOUR ANSWERS,
The political group that
agrees with you most is...
.
LIBERTARIAN
LIBERTARIANS support maximum liberty in both personal and
economic matters. They advocate a much smaller government; one
that is limited to protecting individuals from coercion and violence.
Libertarians tend to embrace individual responsibility, oppose
government bureaucracy and taxes, promote private charity, tolerate
diverse lifestyles, support the free market, and defend civil liberties.

According to that you are a centrist that leans to the left and "statist" (Big Government)
