I agree about the "damages"--they were minimal. It could have been much worse. I care more about the damages to tender and naive psyches. I really can't wrap my head around why the children need to be completely separated from their mothers. How scary for them. If there are no men in the vicinity interested in marrying the girls, then where is the threat, exactly? Put them in a dormitory atmosphere with guards at the door, if need be, but keep the children with their parents!

Dr. Phil did another episode about it today, and was talking about how upwards of 75% of foster children end up in jail or on the streets (something like that), and he mentioned the same thing--that these children need to be kept with and/or returned to their parents as soon as possible. I didn't see/hear the whole show.

Oh, okay that makes sense then. But I understand there was so much confusion with all the attorneys and the women and children it was very hard to hear and understand. Did they ever say how many of the women were pregnant at the time they were taken out of the compound?

Do locked doors at your house mean you are trying to hide something?

It does not make sense to me. They can take the kids under "protection" and it's legal. But they can't take all the men because they are suspects and they have "rights" that the women and children don't. It's just messed up huh?

Re: Whoa! Polygamist solution is frightening...

I hope y'all understand my anger about this. If these women and children were and are abused in anyway I want them safe. And if it takes a while to do it I understand. And I think the state is doing the best it can. I in no way advocate taking kids from parents unless absolutely neccessary to protect them. Most of you should know that a lot of women feel powerless to keep their kids from being abused, and I mean women with just 1 or 2 kids, but this is like all these women agreed to this and allowed their children to be used to please the men and I guess in their minds their relegion.

I don't have a definitive answer on that yet. I would like to be able to read the affidavit that was presented at the hearing...

I am glad Dr. Phil is taking up their cause. They need some outsiders in their corner so that public sentiment can be swayed and the kids returned sooner than later.

Good night all. I can't believe how late it is already!

I agree with that. He is a child advocate.

3. Texas did a better job here then Waco? NO. The people responded as lambs without guns or violence as they were led to slaughter (figuratively speaking)....
I think this whole situation was handled in the best way they possibly could given the circumstances.

1. The CPS/Police had NO IDEA what to expect when they went there. Remember, this is an extremely secretive cult. They live behind locked gates, and from what the local townspeople have reported so far, that although they appear to be friendly, they are not very sociable. The police presence was necessary. And BECAUSE of the history of cults they've had to deal with, they were not going to take any chances.

2. The CPS acted on 'good faith' that there really was a minor being abused. At the time they went in, they could not have known the calls were a hoax. They went in to try to find 'Sarah', and if a door is locked, they BETTER break it down to try to find her.

3. I kept hearing there was very little documentation such as birth/marriage/death certificates. Maybe what they were presenting were not acceptable documents. If that's the case, they can't just take their word for it.

Two nights ago it was reported that there are 12-18 pregnant/nursing minors.

And that some have given birth. That's why the number of children has risen from 416.
