Re: What Are You Reading Currently, 2.0

Our youngest is two and is just these last couple of months coming into his own with his language and speaking abilities. He fumbles and mutters some of the words, but you can see it on his face, he is whole-heartedly all-in. There is such a love and reverence with him. You have to see it to believe it. It's beautiful. Talk about becoming like a little child!

Since we started reading through the Gospels, God has been building such faith. My oldest is more desirous to be filled with the Holy Spirit, our next oldest is overcoming fears, all of them are much more interested in praying, singing to the Lord, and worshipping more freely, etc.

The Word goes forth and accomplishes all that God sends It to do. Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God.

They ask some wonderful questions and I am blessed to teach and explain the Holy Scriptures.

Holy Ghost Sermons by Maria Woodworth Etter.

Somewhere in this book, she reflects on the 1913 Arroyo Seco Camp meeting.

This is a paragraph about the the “spirit” filled Ms. Etter.

At her revival meetings, people danced, laughed, cried, shouted, screamed, and fell into trances that sometimes lasted several days. Woodworth Etter’s friends were the common people, and her enemy was the patriarchy of the Protestant evangelical and Pentecostal churches. She did not bother to court the good opinion of her male colleagues; in fact, she refused to become embroiled in the hair-splitting theologies that were engulfing the rapidly growing Pentecostal movement, and instead concentrated on her own controversial “trance” tours. In some cases, however, she did not view theology as mere hair-splitting; she called the emerging anti-Trinitarian “Oneness” movement, for example, “the biggest delusion the devil ever invented

I'm also reading from the NETS, or the New English Translation of the Septuagint. I decided it was time to read through the Apocrypha. I began with 1 and 2 Esdras, the LXX versions of Esther (VERY different than that MT), and have begun reading Ioudith.

You can read from NETS, too, if you don't own a physical copy:

Here are the versions of Esther, if you'd like to compare and contrast to the MT version:

Re: What Are You Reading Currently, 2.0

Recently just finished On Disobedience: Why Freedom Means Saying "No" to Power by Dr. Erich Fromm:

https://www.harpercollins.com/978006...-disobedience/

I also finished 1 and 2 Corinthians in the ESV and have begun Galatians in the same. In the LXX, I finished with Judith and am reading Tobit, translations of both Greek versions, from NETS.

I also started reading Commentary on Torah: With A New English Translation and the Hebrew Text by Dr. Richard Elliot Friedman:

https://www.harpercollins.com/978006...-on-the-torah/

Finally, I have begun again two other volumes:

Fear and Trembling by Soren Kierkegaard and The Social Contract by Jean-Jacques Rousseau, both of which I started reading some long time ago, but couldn't get through. Going to try to tough them out one more time.
