Playing with statistics again are they? The Morning News is good with that. blah, blah, blah.

THIS is a very important bit of information. That means that any girl who was married at 14 or older from 2005 and before cannot fall under the category of being abused/raped (legally speaking), and her husband can't be prosecuted...right? Unless it there is a different law regarding sex with a minor outside of marriage....

It also lends credence to the concept that some of these men (especially the younger ones) might possibly have been unaware that the law had been changed, considering their protective environment.

Perhaps the state of Texas should be prosecuted for allowing child marriages until 2005, essentially supporting pedophilia with state laws or a lack thereof.

Re: Whoa! Polygamist solution is frightening...

Isn't their leader already been arrested sometime last year for child abuse??

I don't think this stuff is made up...they are saying that many of the children share the same first name and last name.... they have to do DNA tests just to see who the kids belong too...

I applaud Texas for stepping in... Sure the dress is unusual to most...but regardless if there is abuse and it's proven.... Texas did a better job here than Waco....

Why do you suppose the Texas authorities and judge want to keep the matter quiet? 432 children later..... Hmm....
Why are you implying there was shooting involved?

OK Gotcha. "Guns blazing" was meant to convey that they went in there heavily armed and ready for major combat. A move that was very intimidating I would think. Sorry for not being more clear.

Did all these kids get married in Texas? Or their parents?

It is not unusual to seal documents. Especially with children involved. You state the phone number COULD have been traced back to Colorado, was it traced back to Colorado? And there is probably a much better reason than what you are implying for the judge to seal documents. So that the case is not tried in the media anymore than it already is.

It seems that people relate to people who are more like them than not. Unfortunately many people can't relate to these women as real mothers... and so its easier not to feel their pain or recognize that Govt is trampling parental rights.

I think they would be well-served to get themselves an assertive female spokesperson who doesn't look like them.

So you are implying this whole case is because of how the women dress? Are you kidding me? I can't believe anyone actually believes that. Sounds like some attorneys and clerks need to keep their mouths shut. Oh but they can run their mouth as long as it's not facts about the case. Just gossip.

The photos on that website make me sick to my stomach. Those children (and mothers) must be terrified.

I am completely against them permanently terminating parental rights. They don't even do that for parents who are on drugs or prostituting, so why do it in this case?

The ideal is for the children to be returned to their parents ASAP, arrest any men that are committing criminal acts, and educate the community in certain legalities, and then move along. I can understand their tendency (the state of Texas) to err on the side of caution, rather than protecting parental rights, especially if they are equating this group to other cults who have committed rash and deadly acts, e.g., Jones Kool Aid. I understand their perspective on that point, too.

Unfortunately, the state may move beyond protecting children to saving face, and that may not be a good thing.
