Re: We Just "Almost Nuked" Afghanistan!!!
Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
He is the visible image of the invisible God.
There is no difference between the God of the Old Testament, and the God of the New Testament. There is no "old testament filter" nor is there a "new testament filter". Paul said the Rock of the Old Testament was Christ. Moses called that Rock YHVH, the LORD.
There is no difference whatsoever.
Here's new testament:
Revelation 19:11-16 KJV (11) And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war. (12) His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself. (13) And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God. (14) And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean. (15) And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. (16) And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.
And again:
2 Thessalonians 1:6-9 KJV (6) Seeing it is a righteous thing with God to recompense tribulation to them that trouble you; (7) And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, (8) In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: (9) Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power;
We cannot ignore the totality of scripture in order to present a nicer-than-reality version of Christ. His love is higher than the heavens - where'd that come from? OLD TESTAMENT!
Psalms 57:10-11 KJV For thy mercy is great unto the heavens, and thy truth unto the clouds. (11) Be thou exalted, O God, above the heavens: let thy glory be above all the earth.
Psalms 42:8 KJV Yet the LORD will command his lovingkindness in the daytime, and in the night his song shall be with me, and my prayer unto the God of my life.
The Old Testament depicts God as loving, whose mercy and love reaches to the heavens, who is ever faithful and true, slow to anger, and abundant in mercy.
There is no one God of the Old Testament and a DIFFERENT God of the New Testament.
They are ONE and the SAME - JESUS CHRIST.

More Old Testament:
Lamentations 3:22-25 KJV (22) It is of the LORD'S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. (23) They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness. (24) The LORD is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him. (25) The LORD is good unto them that wait for him, to the soul that seeketh him.
More New Testament:
Luke 12:4-5 KJV And I say unto you my friends, Be not afraid of them that kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do. (5) But I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear: Fear him, which after he hath killed hath power to cast into hell; yea, I say unto you, Fear him.
Old Testament:
Isaiah 38:16-17 KJV O Lord, by these things men live, and in all these things is the life of my spirit: so wilt thou recover me, and make me to live. (17) Behold, for peace I had great bitterness: but thou hast in love to my soul delivered it from the pit of corruption: for thou hast cast all my sins behind thy back.
New Testament:
Revelation 2:18-23 KJV And unto the angel of the church in Thyatira write; These things saith the Son of God, who hath his eyes like unto a flame of fire, and his feet are like fine brass; (19) I know thy works, and charity, and service, and faith, and thy patience, and thy works; and the last to be more than the first. (20) Notwithstanding I have a few things against thee, because thou sufferest that woman Jezebel, which calleth herself a prophetess, to teach and to seduce my servants to commit fornication, and to eat things sacrificed unto idols. (21) And I gave her space to repent of her fornication; and she repented not. (22) Behold, I will cast her into a bed, and them that commit adultery with her into great tribulation, except they repent of their deeds. (23) And I will kill her children with death; and all the churches shall know that I am he which searcheth the reins and hearts: and I will give unto every one of you according to your works.

Re: We Just "Almost Nuked" Afghanistan!!!
There is no difference in the God of the old who is the God of the New, but there is a difference in how he relates to humanity, by His choice.
The OT was fleshy and carnal, ie physical, the New Covenant is spiritual.
The OT led to death, the New leads to life.
Yes God is a man of war, if that is how we want to relate to Him then He will be that to us. But.... He is also Love. If that is how wish to relate to Him then He desires that above all else.
Deu 6:4 Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD:
Deu 6:5 And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.
The man of war is only ours if we reject the man of love. The love is spiritual, the man of war is for those who wish to walk in the carnal.

I believe you have confused the old COVENANT with the old testament SCRIPTURES.

The LORD is a man of war because He will wage war on behalf of His people. He has always been that way, and still is, and will continue to be. In the old testament days, if you were froward, God would walk contrary to you. Just as true today as back then.
God has always been merciful and compassionate, slow to anger, quick to forgive, desiring repentance rather than the death of the sinner. That is affirmed throughout the old testament scriptures.
The carnal has to do with natural, not physical. There is the carnal man, and there is the spiritual man, but both are equally physical. Fleshly has to do with sin, not mere physicality. We know this because you are not in the flesh if you have the Spirit, yet you are still a physical human being. Thus, in the flesh means unregenerate and sinful.
The original premise was that God is not a pacifist. And He isn't. Otherwise the wicked have no more to fear from God than they would some old Amish grannie.

Yes mild and meek Jesus will cast the wicked into Hell.
the wicked will not be allowed into heaven, how intolerant of him.
He relates to humanity according to how a person relates to him.
Great man who were loved by God had not problem understanding the concept that sometimes you got to pick up the sword.
Abraham had no problem going to war and rescuing lot.
Joshua was obedient to God and he wiped out whole cities, you do not see Joshua having doubts about what he was doing.
David was beloved of God, yet David had no problem at all going to war and killing thousands of his enemies.
The prophet Samuel had no problem in killing someone.
The prophet Elijah did not hesitate to call fire from heaven to kill some soldiers and later he had no problem slaying 800 prophets of Baal.
I doubt that Abraham or David did not have love for God.
