Yep.

Growing up we never went to macdonalds - way to expensive. What is cheap to buy is veggies. Aldi's very often has canned green beans and peas 4 or 5 for a buck. It's all about choices - if some poor people make poor choices - that's cool it's a free country. The answer isn't limiting choice or blaming others for their stupidity.
Although I understand what you are saying to a degree, I am not comparing McDonalds to canned veggies. I am comparing fresh veggies and fruit and nutritious foods with the stuff that people grab off the shelf that is full of MSG, aspartame and trans fats.

I agree with you. I'd also add that I think the convenience factor plays a big factor in what Americans eat. It's much easier to run through a drive-through than it is to cook a meal at home.

Hmmm it's expensive because we make it that way though. The bottom line, we introduce more calories into that hole below our nose than we consume through our work and exercise.

Canned veggies are very inexpensive. For those who understand that fresh greens are important, you can get a mixture of sprout seeds like alpha alpha to last you a year for about five bucks.

Indeed. Can't miss the show! The primary issue with Americans is that we have too much discretionary income (and food stamps) and too little common sense.

Jesus said that we are to not be greedy. This country is made up of people that call themselves Christians. I posted statistics that pointed out the citizens of this country is consuming more than whats necessary. And even if the statistics were not posted - we know that what we consume is not condusive to a healthy life style. Now we like to say that the majority of our citizens are Christian - so you must ask yourself "who" are those that are doing so much OVER consuming to the detriment of this great nation of ours?
It looks like 'Christians' are. So lets not be named among those that are living such lifestyles. And if Christians change their ways. It will make Jesus happier, it will give us better health and we will have more to share with those that are truly in need in our own country.

This should not be considered a personal conviction to Christians this should be a conviction for EVERY Christian. Isnt it a conviction of yours?
Why are you defending bad behaviour?

Re: Interesting Facts about US Consumption

I think the most inexpensive nutritious thing you can eat are beans, canned or otherwise.

You can get inexpensive nutritious food, but when you look at the overall spectrum.....it costs money and time to eat right.

And for a woman who say, works 9-3 at her hotel cleaning job and then 4-8 at her second job making minimum wage, she comes home exhausted and buys some cheap junk with her food stamps because she is A. uneducated on nutrition B. Is dead tired and doesn't want to cook and C. needs to make sure the money lasts all month.

That's a broad brush which now only includes Christians, I supppose.

We all have personal convictions and things that we think should be corrected in society. She's entitled to those beliefs just as I'm entitled to question when those things are posted on a public forum

I hope she succeeds in those personal convictions and wish her only the very best in her attempts.
I'm sure by her example she'll succeed in convincing others to do likewise.
Yes, I am pointing ONLY at Christians now because the wicked will continue to do wickedly but if one is a child of God they would not want to do something or live something that would make the heart of Jesus weep. Right?

You dont want other Christians to live a life of moderation?...where is that coming from?
Thats like me saying dont call one who commits murder a murderer or dont call one who commits adultery an adulterer because thats MY personal conviction. I thought over consumption was a sin? If it STILL is a sin then Christians ought not participate in it.
The stats do nothing for you? as a Christian American?

I'm not offended.
I support you in your efforts to please the Lord as you see fit.
And please show me where I defended bad behaviour?

I don't know the circumstances of every Christian, and certainly can in no way judge them to be: "greedy, gluttonous and ungrateful". That's all I'm saying, Citizen.

Again, I wish you well, I hope you're successful in cutting back as far as you think pleases the Lord. If that forumula is what all Christians should live by, please come back and tell us how that should work and what it should look like as per the Lord's insructions.

Re: Interesting Facts about US Consumption

I am all over the board on this topic.
Citizen - let me say that usually when someone presents these statistics, they are out to portray Americans as evil, greedy people.
I do not think that you meant that this way.
Now, let me say that I believe many American's are this way. Also, many Christian's are this way.
I know many Apostolics that are addicted to food and are addicted to shopping. They cannot be satisfied with what they have and think that something new will satisfy them.
I hesitate to call this a sin, but in my heart of hearts, I believe that it is. Maybe this is just my personal conviction.
Now back to the poor.
Someone wrote that we have people starving in America. This is utterly ridiculous. If anyone is starving in America, then it is their choice.
Also, it always strikes me as curious that the "poor" seem to be the ones with money for various junk foods. I have been very poor and we ate a lot of beans, rice and other things that some people turn up their nose at. It is amazing how good beef kidney's, hearts, livers can taste when you are hungry. I never could eat chitlin's, though!
We have a bookstore in our church that sell various things. The children that I see in there purchasing the candy/mints/gum after church are always the ones that come from the "poor" families.
