Personally I would never use that bellicose a tone unless a last resort and calling out abject heresy.

Your premise was well researched and presented.

It is unfortunate that we have an element within the mother ship that feels they cannot exist without creating and attacking straw men. Their forte is always what they oppose and never what they are for.

Now a Rodney Shaw comes along merely suggesting dialogue (not compromise) and he is vilified by certain members of the old guard.

The struggle IS gearing up, and for the very existence of the UPCI.

It is no secret that it is hemorrhaging young blood, and if every young man who merely wishes to explore a change in methodology without compromising theology is to be hunted down and beat into submission or run off, the UPCI will die.

I agree. Dan, you need a "Pentecolstal" blog... not HMH or Readitbeforeyousignit, but a blog which tracks discussions and various articles regarding the UPCi and counterparts.

I'm reminded when I read your post about chess grandmaster Joel Benjamin being interviewed while he took a break from the table during a tournament game in New York. He was talking to the reporter while his opponent agonized over his next move.

Benjamin looked over at his opponent then told the reporter:

"He's dead ... he just doesn't know it yet."

The UPC has been dead for I'd say, the past 6-7 years now.

Many of them just don't know it yet.

Tim, I am an unabashed pessimist about many things. The great thing about that mindset is you are either heralded as a prophet or pleasantly surprised.

There are a few exceptions to that general rule. I believe while there is life there is hope.

The grand dame has suffered a mortal wound, some would even say septicemia has set in. But like I said, I believe while there is life there is hope.

Most are blissfully unaware of just how serious it is.

But there are a few Cassandras crying out. Whether it is too little too late remains to be seen.

BTW Tim, I am not making it to Nashville either, but REALLY hope we can get together soon. I still believe we have a book or two to collaborate on sometime.
