Upon our arrival in Ireland, one of the first things my husband told me was that nobody here wears white tennis shoes.

So I started looking.

Low and behold! I DID come across a few! And everytime I pointed a pair out to dear hubby, he seemed to get a little more and more perturbed with me.

One of the last times I did so was while we were at the car rental agency waiting for our car. He was cranky by this time, and my pointing out the young man in white tennis shoes was ill-timed. He was disgusted with me, and I ended up with the giggles! Which seemed to only perturb him more.

Our car renting escapade was an interesting one as well...

We landed, went through customs, claimed our bags, and exited the building...following hubby's lead, we walked a good jaunt away from the terminal to what we found out later was the Hertz rental return lot. The man there informed us, we had to go back to the terminal and look for the Hertz bus to take us to the right place.

So we did all that, and ended up at the Hertz lot about 20 minutes later, only to find out that what we SHOULD have done in the first place was gotten the key from the Hertz agency right there in the terminal, and then walked to the place we went the first time, the rental return lot, where they keep the cars for those who are Gold Card members. (And now you know why hubby was cranky.) He remembered walking to the lot and getting the car from his first visit, he just forgot he had to get the keys at the terminal. And the man that 'helped' us the first time, should have known to ask. *sigh*

Anyway...so we had to wait for them to bring our keys and car from the terminal. While waiting a second busload of customers show up. Then our car shows up. Soooo...we're loading the luggage in the back, and I walk around to what I think is the passenger side, only to see the steering wheel...so I get a dingy look on my face, laugh at myself, and head to the other side of the car...I glance up, and there's a young couple close by the doors that caught what I did, and were laughing at me. So...while I'm waiting for them to load the stuff still I move back over to the 'passenger' side, only to watch my husband go to the 'driver' side, and then bust up laughing that he made the same mistake I did...and yes, the same couple caught this exchange as well and were laughing at us yet again. Glad I could make SOMEBODY'S day more enjoyable!

Sooooo...after we get on the road, and miss a roundabout, and have to turn around and head in the right direction, we come across a toll booth. We hadn't gotten any pounds yet, so she just waived us through and said she'd be looking for us in the next life. Then, we get stuck in MEGA traffic. After travelling about 5 mph for almost 45 mins, we come upon an accident scene...ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE DIVIDED HIGHWAY!!!! We were sooooo irritated!!! As SOON as we drove past that, the traffic picked up to normal speed...first words out of our mouths were, 'Yep, they're just as dumb here as they are back home!'

Right, The Tram is your safe bet.

Better to pay for a ticket and get there rather than you getting lost while driving a Ford.

Lol...RIGHT! Or a Toyota! Which is what they gave us. Out of all the Beemers and Coop's on the lot, we get the Toyota!

Guess they don't trust us, huh?

It would take about 45 mins. to take the tram in to Dublin. I don't think I'll go that far without hubby along for the ride. And it would be less than 30 mins. by car. And I ain't drivin'!

We ended up eating here at the hotel last night at a nice restaurant called Lemongrass. They served us some complimentary 'chips' when we sat down. It looked a bit like pork rinds in texture, and were shaped a lot like a big potato chip. It was served with a sweet chili sauce.

Very, very interesting...with a slight seafood aftertaste. When we asked the waiter what they were he described them as 'blown-up' prawns. They were made with 'cornflakes'.

This is horrible! My sleep cycle is all messed up!!!

It's 5:30 am here, and I've been awake for quite a while now...I crawled into bed sometime after 2:30, and drifted off for just a little while. I finally gave up trying to sleep and got up to come bug ya'll here!

Let's see...what other recollections can I remember right now to share???

I was surprised to see so much of the Gaelic language everywhere. On the road signs we passed on the way here, they all had the Gaelic name and the English name of the cities. The Gaelic name for Maynooth is Maigh Nuad.

Oh! The young ladies at the checkstand at the small grocery store we went to were sitting in chairs. Wonder how long it will take for THAT to hit America?

There are a couple of game shows I happened to come across...they are the English versions of The Price is Right...with a man that reminds me a lot of Richard Dawson. And another show that was very, very similar to Deal or No Deal. They opened black boxes instead of suitcases.
