PO, my point is that when I first read of this here (it was the first I had heard of this), I thought she said, "I remember sitting on my dad's lap and watching Carl Lewis" When I went and read the entire statement and saw that she started with Olga and Nadia (two women who were dominant while she was in elementary school), it made it all at least understandable.
If the first scenario had been true, I would have said that the statement was inexplicable...as it stands she is likely guilty of poor sentence structure in a speech. I don't now see it as an attempt to mislead in any way.
