Re: Angel Band,The Stanley Brothers.
The music and musicianship is good often amazing!
but the vocals is what sort of kills me.
Very whiney, sad, like they are crying....CHEER UP!!!

Re: Angel Band,The Stanley Brothers.
Don't let Amazing Grace fool you!
when we talked on the phone ( long ago)
we got on the topic of music. I vividly recall
her saying that she loves her some Blue Grass!!!
One thing I can't tolerate is someone coming on
the forum saying one thing but on the phone saying
something totally different !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That one does go back a ways.
Soon after Ricky left Emmy Lou's band and went out on his own he came to Cincinnati for a concert. I won free tickets plus an album (remember the old 33's?) for being the proper number caller to a radio station. My wife and I went to a place called Bogarts in Cincinnati to hear him. Several years later we heard him at Riverbend (outdoor theater on the Ohio River) when he had a group of bluegrass bands with him.

It's called that "high lonesome" sound.
I'm not sure how they reach such high notes and sing through their noses.

Ricky Skaggs used to be Ralph Stanley's Mandolin player.

Re: Angel Band,The Stanley Brothers.
Bluegrass is sung in keys like B and F and A and such like that.

I realize that singing is often a soul crying out.
I like to feel what they are saying so no problem there.
Maybe it's the nasal singing thru the now...THAT"S IT!!!
They need to stop doing that
