Why do you say it didn't work? Paul compared it to the Israelites and the daily manna they received from the Lord.
But what you are speaking of in Corinthians came later. The first weeks and months of the church in
Acts 4:32-37, the church gave liberally to such an extent that the apostles had to appoint trusted saints to distribute the money according to need. It sounds like they gave the money to widows and such not to those who were able-bodied to work....
