Re: What Is Your Baptism Story?

I was baptized in a heated swimming pool at a Catholic hospital at the age of 6. I think I was too young. Received the Holy Ghost at 10.

Whoa. Ain't nobody gonna top that story!

Just curious: Was one of the 3 present a pastor? And did he do the baptizing?

Does baptism have to be done by a pastor in order to be "legitimate"? I'm just curious what you all think about that.

Phillip was an evangelist (Acts 21:8).
We read that he baptized the Ethiopian Eunuch in Acts 8:36-40
Now as they went down the road, they came to some water. And the eunuch said, “See, here is water. What hinders me from being baptized?” Then Philip said, “If you believe with all your heart, you may.” And he answered and said, “I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.” So he commanded the chariot to stand still. And both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water, and he baptized him. Now when they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord fell upon the eunuch and the angel of the Lord snatched Philip away, so that the eunuch saw him no more; and he went on his way rejoicing. But Philip was found at Azotus. And passing through, he preached in all the cities till he came to Caesarea.

We don't know who baptized the Samaritans who were converted under Phillip's preaching but we assume it was Phillip (Acts 8:5-12)

There is no record of who did any baptizing of the 3000 converts on the Day of Pentecost in Acts 2:41. We assume they self-immersed according to the custom at that time like others who were visiting the Temple.

We don't know who (if anyone) baptized Saul of Tarsus. Ananias is described as "a devout man according to the law having a good testimony with all the Jews who dwelt" in Damascus, laid hands upon Saul and ministered the Holy Ghost Baptism to him. Then afterward, Ananias said, "Why do you delay? Get up and immerse yourself wash away your sins, calling on the name of the Lord" (Acts 22:16)

In my opinion, any believer could baptize any other believer. It would not require an ordained minister to do so.

Re: What Is Your Baptism Story?

I was baptized in May of 1970 by Br. Calvin Rigdon. I was 19 years old. I first felt the need to be baptized when I was about 10 years old. My dad, who was not in the church, would not agree for me to be baptized until I was an adult. I started attended the pentecostal church ( other than Sunday School) while dating someone there. I got the Holy Ghost on June 14, 1970.

Where were you baptized (both geographically and baptistry, creek, etc)?

How old were you?

I was baptized in Jesus name when I was 8 years old in Alaska in the church baptistry. I was baptized by Pastor Shoemaker and a few months later received the baptism of the Holy Ghost and spoke in tongues at the age of 9.

Somewhere I have a picture of my baptism but I have no clue where it is. Hopefully I will find it.

By he way since I am 48 years old that means this year was my 40th baptismal anniversary!!!!!!!!!!

May 17th, 1976. Baptized Ft. Worth, TX.

One of the few at that time that was baptized by Mark Hanby.

Only because my Dad was traveling.

Otherwise my Dad would have baptized me.

When my dad talked to me via phone.

He told me that he was glad I got baptized ASAP.

Re: What Is Your Baptism Story?

Oh my! This is a great topic!
I would have to include some other key moments. I moved from Florida to Louisianna. I recieved Jesus in my heart after watching a true movie based on 3 nuns who were assassinated. One on the actresses was Melissa Gilbert. At the end of the movie her charector quoted 'Footprints in the sand". I new that I knew who Jesus was right then! Everything changed for me from then on. I knew that I need to be babtised. Now, may I remind you that I have no prior teaching of salvation.
I was baptised in titles at Emanuael Bapist church, here in Lake Charles back in Feb 82 I believe, asked by then live in boyfriend to marry me. We were married that June.
After that I started to learn and seek and ask. Emanuel Baptist didn't believe in speaking in tongues...I can't explain it, but I disagreed...later left. I went to other churches and tent revials inbetween. I wanna say Feb. of 86 I asked for the Holy Ghost. I did not speak in tongues that day, however, the next day, while driving on the highway 210, while praying, I recieved the HS(tongues)!
After that, a fella movied into the trailor park we lived in. If anyone knows him, he was the one who brought me back to going to church after a short leave. I had just had my first child in June of 86. I had been asked to go to livingway 3 or 4 x's before but was reluctant. But when Mike Castelle (cas-steel) moved in and introduced himself to me and my husband, I knew that he was different. He invited me to Livingway. He told me about baptism in Jesus name, we prayed, I read the word and prayed, and was rebaptised in Jesus name by Sept. of 86 by Bro. Nugent. Mike was married to a girl named Melody. I heard they divirced and he lives somewhere in Texas. He is a butcher by trade and is missing a finger. I believe he had a daughter to with Melody, her name is Sunny? Anyway, I would love to hear or see Mike again.
Anyways...that's the short of it!! LOL

Yes, one was a pastor. He did the baptizing.

Re: What Is Your Baptism Story?

I don't know about you guys but I am really enjoying reading these stories of folks baptisms.

Don't be afraid to elaborate and tell it as a story. It is always fascinating to know what brought folks to the waters of baptism and of course to a decison to live for Christ and receiving the baptism of the Holy Spirit.

Sam, if I run across that pic I will post it but I don't have a clue where it is. Just picture a skinny little kid right after he was dunked with his hands held up high worshipping God. LOL!!! I remember what the picture looks like in my mind.

It is kind of strange but I don't remember first hand my baptism at age 8 but I clearly remember the time in the altar a few months later when I recieved the baptism of the Holy Spirit at age 9.
