But not to worry, the GOP apologists will say he's still eligible. Apparently the natural born citizen requirement just means you have to have at least one parent who was an American, somehow, some way...

What's up with this?
CRUZ, Rafael Edward (Ted), a Senator from Texas; born in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, December 22, 1970; graduated Princeton University, B.A., 1992; graduated Harvard University, J.D., 1995; law clerk to Chief Justice of the United States William Rehnquist; associate deputy attorney general, U.S. Department of Justice; director of the Office of Policy Planning, Federal Trade Commission; solicitor general of Texas 2003-2008; lawyer; elected as a Republican to the United States Senate in 2012 for the term ending January 3, 2019.

According to the Harvard Law Review, Ted Cruz is eligible to run for President.
Quote:
On the Meaning of “Natural Born Citizen”
We have both had the privilege of heading the Office of the Solicitor General during different administrations. We may have different ideas about the ideal candidate in the next presidential election, but we agree on one important principle: voters should be able to choose from all constitutionally eligible candidates, free from spurious arguments that a U.S. citizen at birth is somehow not constitutionally eligible to serve as President simply because he was delivered at a hospital abroad.
While some constitutional issues are truly difficult, with framing-era sources either nonexistent or contradictory, here, the relevant materials clearly indicate that a “natural born Citizen” means a citizen from birth with no need to go through naturalization proceedings.
While the field of candidates for the next presidential election is still taking shape, at least one potential candidate, Senator Ted Cruz, was born in a Canadian hospital to a U.S. citizen mother.
Despite the happenstance of a birth across the border, there is no question that Senator Cruz has been a citizen from birth and is thus a “natural born Citizen” within the meaning of the Constitution. Indeed, because his father had also been resident in the United States, Senator Cruz would have been a “natural born Citizen” even under the Naturalization Act of 1790.

|
In a nutshell, "natural born" and "naturalized" are two separate issues. Sen. Cruz did not have to become "naturalized", as his mother was a United States citizen. When he was born, Ted Cruz's mother registered him at the US Consulate in Canada. They moved away when he was 4 years old. Canada doesn't tax citizens not residing and so they were unaware that he held dual-citizenship. He has since denounced his Canadian citizenship.
He is a patriot and believes in the US Constitution far more than most Americans. I can say that for him. Same with Bobby Jindal, although neither of Bobby's parents were American citizens when he was born, becoming naturalized later.
Ted Cruz is eligible to run for President of the United States. Unless the populist rises up against the GOP Establishment, he will not win the nomination. I am glad he is focusing on this point and setting a precedent for it. Someone needs to do it - win or lose.

Dual citizenship? Denounced that he was born in Kenya...I mean Canada?
Sounds great, I hereby denounce my birth in the Bronx New York.

What about the Arnold! He is a patriot, believes in the US Constitution and is still in better shape than Ted Cruz. I bet Ted Cruz doesn't even lift. I bet he has a bench of 80lbs, a dead lift of 100, and can only squat in a bathroom. He looks like a gurly man. If Ted can run for president let the Arnold run!

Piyush "Bobby Brady" Jindal was born on good old Louisiana soil. He is as Lou Zee Anna as they get. Now, he wasn't born in Jug Foot India, or Beaver Whisker Alberta Canada. Bobby was born in the United States in one of the most wonderful states in the South. Hence he is a real bonafide American.

Sorry, but Ted doesn't stand an ice cubes chance on a hot Florida I 95 during rush hour.
It is Hillary! Sadly we will be bowing to the queen!
Off with their heads!

It would take some doing, but at least he is willing to propose a solution - a Constitutional remedy - a remedy to throw off judicial tyrants.
“I am proposing an amendment to the U.S. Constitution that would subject each and every justice of the United States Supreme Court to periodic judicial retention elections." - Sen. Ted Cruz

Washington and the GOP Establishment were trying to "select" David Dewhurst in Texas, but the people rose up and "elected" Ted Cruz.
As far as the Supreme Court goes - always "selected". I agree with Justice Scalia:
"a system of government that makes the People subordinate to a committee of nine unelected lawyers does not deserve to be called a democracy."

'Ah-nold' may well be a patriot, but he's as liberal as they come. In fact, when he was the 'Gov-uh-nator', he was more liberal than the Democrat state congress!

Ah-nold actually was naturalized, hence he is ineligible.

Thank you! Senator Ted Cruz is not a "naturalized" citizen, he is "natural born" through his mother - making him eligible under the Constitution.
The difference between Cruz and Obama is that Obama has an obscure background causing skepticism toward him, Cruz does not.
