The pool has been open for less than twelve hours, but has already attracted more than 950 trades. Intrade estimates that about $2300 has been traded on the Palin withdrawal contract.
I don't see that happening switching VP's at this point would be the end of McCain.
If he'll choose Romney and get some economic teeth on his side, then he can get my vote and a lot of other moderates as well. It'll be interesting to see if this gains any steam after her turbulent introduction on to the national scene.
I really think McCain would be better if she simply withdrew her name from consideration and they moved on to a better choice.

That may be true, but it would be a tough sale especially after the convention. They would go after McCain full bore on decisions, judgement, and flip-flopping etc...It would pretty much amount to them saying that you don't get many "oops, my bad"s as the President and leader of the free world.

I think it is too late for that, though I would have loved to see Romney at the top of the GOP ticket.

I agree.

I just wanted to add some drama to finish out the day! Don't squash it! It will make tomorrow night more exciting!! I"m trying to think of how to get out of going to church tomorrow night. I might eat a bunch of jalepenos for lunch tomorrow. Think that would work?

Placing a Palin withdrawal at even 12% seems bullish; no presidential candidate has withdrawn his VP selection since Thomas Eagleton left Democratic candidate George McGovern's ticket in 1972.
McCain's choice of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin to be his co-pilot was the biggest gamble in presidential history. As of now, it is paying off, big-time.

I would much rather have Palin.

I agree it would be a risky proposal, but if they framed it right, I think the risks would be equal to what they are with her.
If, say, Sara Palin would decide over night that the pressure and turmoil was too much on her family and that she called John McCain in the morning to withdraw her name as candidate for VP, then that would lessen McCain's burden in the whole matter.
McCain would simply be a victim of circumstance and with deep regret would have to accept her withdrawal and then get his campaign back on track with a better pick.
Did I sell you Baron?
