Security for any cell in hiding requires that the individual members of the cell be separated to some degree and that the entire cell be isolated from other cells within the clandestine organization.

It's the, "So we don't all get wiped out with the same grenade..." theory. I would guess that given bin Laden's kidney disease and need for medical treatment, he was moved into a city with medical facilities.

His compound was only two blocks from a Margis Arif Hospital and 600 meters from the top Pakistani military training academy - the PMA Kakul (see attached picture).
