In my case, I became a Christian when I was a child. As I got older I became heavily involved with alcohol and a corrupt life for many years. I could have died on a number of occasions. Only when God miraculously intervened was I able to fully commit my life to Him.
I often wondered why the Lord was so patient with me and gave me so many opportunities, while others never seem to hear His call. My answer is that the Lord knew that I would believe and serve Him, so He predestinated (predetermined) certain things to happen in my life so that I would surrender myself to Him.
