Tommy Douglas was a hireling who paid for college by preaching on weekends for $15/week. He claimed "The Bible is like a bull fiddle...you can play almost any tune you want on it." He preached the gospel of liberalism and socialism, much like you. He also based his thesis on eugenics and advocated state camps for people with diseases or sterilization for the mentally handicapped.

In short, Tommy Douglas was as much a minister and Christian as is the "Rev." Al Sharpton or "Rev" Jesse Jackson.

He's certainly not someone to be celebrating as a "beautiful" witness.

But can you tell me what he was referring to with that quote?

The study of eugenics was popular at the time. Most of his conceptualizations were theoretical. And his government never actually acted on any eugenics agenda.

Hey, don't forget to lump Rev. Martin Luther King in there.

I look at it like I look at Verbal Bean, one of my favorite preachers. Verbal Bean once commented during a sermon that if we didn't keep segregation, one day "mixed abominations" would be dancing in the church.

Now... I love Verbal Bean's teaching and preaching. But he was a man of his time and had some rather messed up views that were essentially, racist. You have to be capable of seeing the good contributions of a man and seeing the negative contributions of a man, because all men are imperfect.

It was used as a response to his social gospel messages.

No, and that's likely due to one Adolf Hitler. Theoretical? Had Hitler not ruined eugenics for him before getting into office in 1944, I doubt it would have remained theoretical.

Absolutely.

Yes, here we are with the popular, "minister's are just human like us" defense.

Nope, it as actually said in a debate on a particular issue. Can you give context? lol

Eugenics was a fad. And thank God it fizzled out.

Are you proposing that ministers are deified human beings that are not like us?

I'm not sure what you think it was about. The context I read was Douglas explaining his approach to preaching: """Tommy explained his approach to preaching this way: 'You start with a text. But the Bible is like a bull fiddle, you can play almost any tune you want on it. My background, being interested in social and economic questions, naturally inclined me to preaching the idea that religion in essence was entering into a new relationship with God and into a new relationship with the universe. And into a new relationship with your fellow man. And that if Christianity meant anything, it meant building the brotherhood of man."""

That's from the book "Tommy Douglas" by Dave Margoshes.

But tell me your version.

It hasn't fizzled out. PP was built on eugenics. It's still very much alive.

Not at all. I'm just stating that the high and holy calling isn't what it used to be. When you have blatant sinners claiming to be God's voice, standing behind the pulpit while in sin and without fear -- that is what I'm referring to.

Re: Trumpcare: Pre-existing Conditions Not Covered

God's answer to sickness is very simple,"Believers shall lay hands on the sick and they shall recover."

To say that we are out of His will to not want to pay health insurance for others is crazy and you are insinuating that God's will for how sickness should be dealt with has changed.

Has it changed?

If it has changed, show me in scripture where He has declared it so?

The true Christian response to sickness and disease should be first and foremost obedience in how Christ declared and commanded that we would and should act.

"But but but there's lots of sick people!"

Yep...and we serve a great big God...get to praying.

The church has failed by outsourcing to man, what God has commanded us to do.

We have literally outsourced miracles and healing to money driven industry.

It's just as crazy as if we took an American made and designed product that was popular here...something that defined us as a people, a country and a nation and we decided as a people that henceforth this product would not be primarily be made in America but we would outsource friend chicken and apple pie and all things baseball to a third world country and THEY would decide how to proceed in the development and the maintaining of those products and now we rely on them and we support them and send them money for a increasingly inferior product that only grows on cost.

THAT is what the church has done by outsourcing healing!

Please provide the documentation for this quote. I just need to know the sermon title and year, a link to an audio file would be great.

Where's Bro Epley? I would bet he knows whether that is true or not. I've read VB preached and allowed blacks in his church when it wasn't popular to do.

I'll not hold my breath waiting on documentation from a democrat.

Why are democrats so against documentation? Whether it's crazy claims about famous preachers, voter ID, or a President's birth certificate, they just seem to shy away from documentation...
