The Fair Tax is a consumption tax. It wouldn't work unless you totally eliminated the IRS. Mexico and England both have the VAT - Value Added Tax - and they also have the income tax. If we didn't eliminate the IRS, they would give us the Fair Tax, but they would also give us the Fair Tax and the Income Tax. You can't have a consumption tax and the IRS.

The best way to get to the Fair Tax is to start with a Flat Tax. You could take care of the poor by personal exemptions. The Flat Tax - taxes at the lowest possible denominator -would dramatically reduce the IRS and get us well on our way to eliminating the IRS getting us closer to a Fair Tax.

If any candidate proposes the Flat Tax, it's a good step in that direction. BTW, Sen. Ted Cruz proposes a Flat Tax as a two-step solution.

well, this is why i love the guy--and also why i am sure that he cannot succeed. How many naive promises have we seen fall by the wayside? Others firmly believed in change, and yet were somehow swayed from following through.
