This is part of the problem of elevating style up to or nearly to the level of substance.
It tends to become less important WHAT is being said. Perhaps even more importantly, when the style is no longer in vogue the die-hards will continue to foist it in firm belief they are adhering to the Old Paths...
Much better not to hold that sacred which the scripture is silent on.

I am a firm believer in the Old Paths
Articles on such subjects as "The New Birth," will be accepted, whether they teach that the new birth takes place before baptism in water and Spirit, or that the new birth consists of baptism of water and Spirit. - THE PENTECOSTAL HERALD Dec. 1945
"It is doubtful if any Trinitarian Pentecostals have ever professed to believe in three gods, and Oneness Pentecostals should not claim that they do." - Daniel Segraves

Look into George Whitefield and the early brush arbor campmeeting preachers. The style of preaching comes from our holiness/methodist/nazarine roots. The home spun rhetoric of country and classic african american preaching combined with parabolic speaking styles to get what we have today as far as "apostolic preaching" styles. The reason the early preachers yelled or used their voice to project is because they didn't have amplification. As churches got wired up with the electrification of America in the 30-40s and rudimentary PA systems began to become incorporated in churches... the older style of projection based speaking didn't change... plus those preachers trained the next generation... who followed their example and picked up their speaking styles either by deliberate imitation or by osmosis since it was the social norm.
http://www.pioneernet.net/rbrannan/w...eld/bfongw.htm
Benjamin Franklin said of Whitefield: He had a loud and clear voice, and articulated his words and sentences so perfectly... ...Both streets were fill'd with his hearers to a considerable distance. Being among the hindmost in Market-street, I had the curiosity to learn how far he could be heard, by retiring backwards down the street towards the river; and I found his voice distinct till I came near Front-street, when some noise in that street obscur'd it. Imagining then a semi-circle, of which my distance should be the radius, and that it were fill'd with auditors, to each of whom I allow'd two square feet, I computed that he might well be heard by more than thirty thousand.
Many of the younger ministers followed that style of outdoor preaching/speaking and if you add our desire/addiction to emotional stimulation as Pentecostals its easy to see where it came from. Its not New Testament, its just another expression of culture that is neither right nor wrong as long as its getting the job done in the local church... and if it isn't... then it can be changed if the pastor is willing to change it

Re: Annointed apostolic screaming...I mean preachi
I've only really been to one megachurch that has a screaming preacher and thats Rod Parsleys church in Reynoldsburg, all the rest (and ive been to about 20 or so to pick up ideas) put strong teachers on the pulpit on a weekly basis. Saddleback, Lakewood, Gateway/Houston, Calvary Chapel Ft. Lauderdale, Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa, The Rock San Diego, Second Baptist Houston, Vineyard Cincinatti, Flamingo Road Baptist, Crystal Cathedral, Northpoint Atlanta, Church of the Springs Ocala, Lifechurch.tv, etc etc etc... all strong teachers.

Re: Annointed apostolic screaming...I mean preachi
It bugs me when the one leading praise and worship keeps saying 'COME ON NOW, somebody put your hands together" I'll put my hands together when the spirit move me to put my hand together!
