You dont have to get an attorney - your insurance has one for you.

As far as not having any money, Jer., don't worry! They are not really after you, they want the insurance company. Furthermore, they know how to pursue them!

I received a ticket once to appease the other driver. The police officer told me to fight it, so I did. He showed up in court and convinced the Judge to dismiss the ticket.

Your insurance company is required by law to defend you. You don't have to pay a lawyer

This is between your insurance company and her. They will provide any attorney's needed and litigate the case. I don't know what state you are in but most require at least $25,000 coverage as a minimum and you probably (hopefully) had a lot more than that. Even that minimum would come close to covering what she is suing you for.
You need to contact your insurance company and find out what they are doing about the lawsuit.
My son who fell asleep and was at fault in a head on collision that totaled his brand new Scion Xb and the other guys Jeep just found out that State Farm dropped him last month. They say they notified him but he says he never saw anything in the mail. He is going to have fun finding affordable insurance at age 22 being a male with a major accident on his record. The only previous claim he had was when he was on my State Farm Insurance policy a couple of years ago and his car was vandalized while parked to the tune of about $2,000 damage. I was very surprised State Farm cancelled him after this one accident on his own policy. I would have thought they would have just rated him for a higher premium.

Your insurance company has their own litigators Jermyn. If you were insured at the time of this accident, I'm sure you filed a claim with them.
They will litigate the matter on your behalf. Thats why we call it insurance.
