I have been friends with The Mrs for 10 years now...hard to believe it has been that long...but she is one of my closest friends...she is the kind of friend that will drive alllll night to get to you if you need help...she is the first one I call when I am in need...and she is always there.....
I told you all that to tell you this...I pushed her away because of that pastor...they left the church....and we did not speak for almost or around 2 years...I thought she was so decieved...and had a bad spirit of rebellion on her(this was drummed into me over and over)...oh my goodness I am confessing here folks...it was really ugly...she and her family were hurt more than she will ever admit....I have cried many tears over what a beautiful and dear friend she is and how she still loves me in spite of what I did to her......the whole time we were separated I grieved more for her than I did anything in my life...God kept speaking to me, and giving me signs I would be close to her again....when we left that church they were the FIRST ones we called....they came and forgave and loved us all the more! God is so awesome and He gives us such wonderful friends! I love my friend

Believe it or not we came out of much worse. You were going to hell if your clothes did not have 6 inches of extra cloth on each side of your body. Women's skirts had to be60 inches on the bottom whether you 5 or 95. Could not take a job without permission, buy a house, car, could not live more than 10 miles from the church, could not go to the doctor without apologizing for "failing God" to the rest of the congregation, etc ... A lot more. TOTAL GARBAGE!! No such thing as outreach and if you wore short sleeves? You were out of the shrine!!!!!!!

dress code where I was...not so severe...long sleeves no matter how hot it was outside...suits to church for the men, and bare legs were frowned on...so many of these things came in preaching as if it were gosple, NO never denim in the sanctuary, hair bound up, of course NO jewery, not even wedding bands, they promoted goodwill and salvation army... they preached against living too far from church....fancy cars, we stoppped driving our Camaro to church and bought an old used car, because of the preaching against fancy cars, oh and we were suppose to get permission for jobs as well...they didn't state it that way, but that was how it came down...being in church was more important than providing for your family...
I know of one fellow who turned down promotions because he wanted to be available for church first...didn't matter that his family goes without! I am not saying being poor is a sin, but when you choose it?

That is interesting...our church grew more by babies being born than by new converts! I was suprised at how many familys had 3 or 4 kids or more!

Aawwww...STS...that is so sweet of you to say all this.
You have been such a wonderful friend to me, and an awesome 'gma' to my children.
Those were some VERY rough years. It's so hard to come out from under that type of leadership. I knew you were in a place that you couldn't help but think the stuff you did about us...I'm so glad that's all behind us now!

When we left my wifes church because of the new nuttso pastor, we left because of all his hang-ups regarding marital relations, meaning his long list of "don'ts". His only "DO" was absolutely positively NO birth control. In fact, the sole purpose for marital relations was to have babies.
Most of the congregation was shocked when he started teaching this stuff. We of course left that first day we heard it, but nearly two years later, almost everyone there has done a 180 and now fully support it. In fact the church has grown by 10+, using the breeding method.
We were at a function where we met many of the church members and virtually every woman under 35 had an infant or toddler AND was very pregnant.

We did the same thing...I honestly thought they were sooo wicked and rebellious! It happened with many other people and families...I've been able to preserve a few friendships, but not many.

This is healing, Renda.
I never thought I'd have the courage to say all that I have on this forum. I've honestly been afraid of what people would think. I've been afraid that someone from OR would see all this and...who knows...I'm so tired of being afraid of what others think. I'm tired of church leadership acting like God and ruining lives...This day has been good for me. Thanks for starting this thread STS.
