nothing back woods about that.

Opinions are never THE ANSWER ... they are a belief .... the person who disagrees and is the target of such belief could feel like they are being called a liar .... but that is PERCEPTION ....

This is NOT denying the truth as you know it! It's about NOT being offensive at a community gathering!
As for praying for at the presidentual annaugural, I wouln't do it! I would be so nervous, I would forgot what I was praying about and end up asking God to bless the food!

That happened one Wednesday night...the usher forgot he was blessing the offering!!

Allow us to speak of 'hypothetics.' If given the opportunity to address a Baptist congregation, what would you preach to them?
Standards??

I would give a speech instead of praying so that no one would be offended that I even believed in a God. Something about how we are all good in and of ourselves. I mean, why do we need a GOD!!!!
EGAD!

I haven't taken the time to read all the way through, but I will share what I think. Personally, I have been asked to be a part of many different "religious" gatherings. Most, if not all, know who I am. I have never been asked by anyone to not speak in tongues. For me, I respect others who might be freaked out by speaking in tongues. My Christian respect for them causes me to exercise restraint. I have never forbade anyone in any prayer meeting I have overseen, on a community level, to speak in tongues. I have, however, asked people of both persuasions, for and against tongues, to be respectful of each other.
I could handle a request not to speak in tongues depending upon the attitude and purpose of the requestor. I rarely speak in tongues loudly anyway. I don't speak in tongues for people to hear me or to make a statement. It is between me and God. I'm not ashamed....I'm just not into spectacles.
Each one has to follow the Lord as these types of doors open. I was asked to MC our city-wide National Day of Prayer event this year. Probably everyone knows I am Pentecostal/Charismatic (depending on their viewpoint) and no one said anything about speaking in tongues. I have mentioned publicly in front of hundreds of people at previous events that I speak in tongues. There is a time and a place to speak in tongues. That is NOT every place and all the time. The spirit of the "prophet" is subject to the prophet. I don't think it is always about compromise. I think the main issue is respect and that goes both directions. I have told people before that I respect that they don't speak in tongues and that they should respect that I do. I won't expect them to speak in tongues if they don't expect me not to. I have also told those same people that they probably won't hear me speak in tongues, but If they do, their liberty should allow it.
