I guess, to me, it was sounding like Prax was saying since the Pastor is human like all of us, there should be no differentiation in our relationship. Maybe I'm wrong.... That's what I was getting out of it.
what I was saying is that a Pastor can have as a friend someone in the church that is not a Pastor and that the saints should always view the Pastor in terms of his office and his humanity.

I am not talking about treatment though in terms of friendship. Im talking about relationship,. As I said I am not saying the Pastor and every member of the church should be close friends. Im saying there is nothing wrong with the Pastor having a close friendship with a saint on an intellectual level. I know of Pastors that go hunting with some of the men in the church. They go out like buddies.

It is not practical for the pastor to be close friends with everyone as even a non pastor is not close friends with everyone

The pastor will naturally be closer to some over others, and has that right. It just can make things complex. Personally, I'd avoid it. More power to you if you want to try it out. I think lots of people have said they got burned. It's too bad. Unfortunate.
Ironically it was after he became Pastor that we grew closer. I did have another brother I was close to that pastored a spanish group within our church I was close to who now pastors his own church.

We are contemporaries. I have been here for a long time.

Prax, your posts reflect some of the nastiest attitudes on a consistent basis that I run into on this forum.

Your posts often come across as insufferably arrogant and know-it-all.

Just thought I would mention that.
This could describe several on this forum, some still here, some who are now gone.

I appreciate Prax's opinion, and in my humble opinion, his posts are not NEARLY as arrogant as some on here.

The old saying "Familiarity breeds contempt" probably has some truth to it.

And as far as we know 2020 isn't a pastor.

Maybe as he assumed with Prax there's some prior issues - - maybe he's been jealous of not being a friend of the pastor?

j/k - - thought it'd be fun to assume like you did with Prax (that he prior issues)

There aint much more arrogant that hit and run insults all the while spouting authority for the pastor. The pastor has the bigest club in that deal. no wonder its defended.

Re: How close should a pastor get to the members?

I have very few pastor friends, although I am a pastor. Three, that I am close to, and would seek their opinion in pastoral matters.

I have a board of trustees that I feel very close to, especially when it comes to business matters of our local church.

I do know of some pastors close by that I feel overstep their authority as pastor. I also have very few close friends, but two of my closest are on the board of trustees.
