Re: Former Memphis area pastor preaching a confere

I can't believe that weeks after this conference no one that attended has found this thread and commented on it.

Has anybody talked to anybody who attended or has heard about what transpired? I wonder if there is anyplace online where one can hear TB's speech? (relucant to call it sermon).

"We did not wear uniforms. The lady workers dressed in the current fashions of the day, ...silks...satins...jewels or whatever they happened to possess. They were very smartly turned out, so that they made an impressive appearance on the streets where a large part of our work was conducted in the early years.

"It was not until long after, when former Holiness preachers had become part of us, that strict plainness of dress began to be taught.

"Although Entire Sanctification was preached at the beginning of the Movement, it was from a Wesleyan viewpoint, and had in it very little of the later Holiness Movement characteristics. Nothing was ever said about apparel, for everyone was so taken up with the Lord that mode of dress seemingly never occurred to any of us."

Still, the thought of this makes me want to puke.

Re: Former Memphis area pastor preaching a confere

I have tried to not follow the TB story, but it really seems to me that this guy has absolutely no shame for what has happened.

Isn't this troubling to anyone else?
Isn't this disgusting to anyone else?

German, a former pastor of mine many times said from the pulpit for the saints not to ridicule someone who has fallen into sin, even if it is something truly horrible, because but for the grace of God it could be us. He said that any of us are capable of anything without God's help.

I think what he said is very true and that is why, while I will criticize actions involved in and after a fall, I do not ridicule men or women who fail. They are human and no matter what position they attained among men they were still just human and subject to failure as are all of us.

This does not mean we excuse the failure, ignore it, or bury out head in the sand and act like it never happened. It does mean we understand the nature of it, learn from it, and pray for the person invovled. Please note I said "pray" not "enable". Some enable the fallen person by acting as if they did nothing wrong or that there is no "road" to restoration just a quick little "I'm sorry" and they are good to be back in a pulpit. That makes a mockery of God, the ministry, and discipleship.
