Im really not sure. I think its been so ingrained in our churches. I would like to know the real meaning of "Come out from them and be ye separate."
Isn't that God talking to the Israelites in the OT? When they were under the law, which included hundreds of rules as to how they were supposed to be separate?

Your telling me. But some people twist that to mean other things.

Yes, Mich, I think this was for the Israelites but has been adopted by certain Christian sects.

When I was young and clever, I wanted to change the world. Now that I am older and wiser, I strive to change myself. ~
I couldn't help but be both moved and disturbed when I watched this. It brought forth so many conflicting feelings in me.
I am sure that when I spoke in tongues that what happened on these brain scans happened to me. I have seen real tongues and I have seen fake. I suspect that in what I would call fake tongues, the frontal cortex was more engaged and in what I call real tongues the frontal cortex was less engaged, if at all. Of course, the study doesn't prove God is speaking through these individuals.
Something that happened to me when I left the church and stopped speaking in tongues all the time....it was like my brain was covered in layers of tissue paper and everyday, a little more tissue paper was removed. I was in the church for so long, that tissue paper is still being removed.
Once in a great while, I still speak in tongues. It seems like two things happen. At first, it is a washing, a wonderful, awesome feeling. But I stop when I feel a "crossing over" into an area where it feels like something foreign. I think there is 1) a real tongues that is God inspired (my opinion), 2) a tongues that seems real to the believer but is induced by groups trying to "touch God" but actually puts a person into a highly suggestive state (what I call the "crossing over") and 3) a totally fake tongues that a person just says shahalalallala.

Apparently you can fake knowledge of the scriptures too.

In fact I think that the insinuation of "hateful" Pentecostals is coming mostly from the fertile imaginations of bitter, backslidden ex Apostolics who are constantly trying to find a way to justify their actions. ~ strait shooter
14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?
15 And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel?
16 And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.
17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you.
18 And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.
It concerns being unequally yoked with unbelievers.

Okay but, two things.
1. What was the unclean thing being talked about here to separate from? It was idols. Depending on the interpretation of what an idol might be, this could be a huge, huge difference. For example, some might interpret using the following of the "rules" (whatever the sect interprets that as) of the Bible as being held higher than God's directives to a person and that a person should not idolize the "rules" to that extent. Others would use this scripture on every little thing, like a jack o' lantern could be an "idol" that one was worshiping.
2. Can you find two directives for the New Testament church to be separate? Or is this the only verse in the New Testament that speaks of such to the church?

You are technically correct. I was reading
Quote:
And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols
but we are pretty much on the same page with the way this verse is being used.
