Right. This is servant leadership....something I saw precious little of in the UPC, personally. But in the long run, I'm sure it takes less effort to mentor and serve than to control.

I am very thankful for the numerous men and women in the UPC who have been mentors to me.

I can't help but think that maybe those pastors that don't mentor young ministers are doing so for job security. What they are actually doing is stunting the church's growth and future success.

so true pianoman, motivated by fear, what a shame, glad my dad and grandfather didnt feel that way, there are over 20 churches with pastors out of that church now, and yet it thrives amazing, lol, dt

I agree! I think that the older generation realizes that this current generation has alot of talent and God's anointing on them and they are alittle worried. This generation has yet to earn everything it has coming. Though it God has given us a great outpouring of his spirit and anointing. Us young ones do need mentoring to learn how to handle situations and handle ourselves.

My father was like your father in that he mentored several preachers that are now successful pastors. One of the preachers that he mentored in now a district superintendant in the UPCI!

My father sent good tithe paying preachers out to start new churches or pastor existing churches. The result? The church continued to grow!!
