I've been surprised by a couple things:

1) That the opening statements are polar opposite, with the Pros seeming to appeal to emotion and the Def already going in depth into the evidence and witness statements.

2) Pros alleges that GZ's injuries were so small they didn't need any stitches and that he wanted a Dr's note to go back to work. Def countered this with West's presentation of the pic from that night, showing a bloody GZ (surprised Pros didn't object, since none of the pics had been entered into trial evidence).

That's the first I heard of this. It's consistent with the photo I mentioned in the other thread, showing GZ's pant's knees clean, while TM's knees were stained and dirty.

Mr. West...are you aware that this is your opening statement? Typically the opening statement is done in a short story form of why the defendant is not guilty. You have a whole part of the trial, called the Cross Examination, where you can present all the evidence.

Please follow each part of the trial as they're intended to be. The opening statement is not meant to be a 2 or 3 hour presentation of all your evidence...

I'm surprised the Pros or Judge hasn't stepped in with either an objection or sidebar, to get Mr. West to move along. Now, I appreciate the information Mr. West is giving; but he's going overboard with what's supposed to be a short statement of why his client isn't guilty.

Pros and Judge finally stepping in to get Mr. West to stick to what the opening statement should be. I think the Pros was getting nervous on the track Mr. West was on...he had just stated that TM's mom and dad both admitted the screams did not sound like TM. He said GZ's uncle heard the tape on the news and recognized the voice as GZ. Then Mr. West said TM's parents hired an attorney and some press agent or publicity agent, demanded the audio be released to the public and then changed their story to say that the person screaming was TM.

I'm not a fan of people changing their story, especially after winning a wrongful-death settlement of over $1 million. It's as though TM's parents changed their story to help their wrongful death suit.

Interesting twist...Jury gone. There's a hearing now on the sequestration of GZ's parents due to their being on the Pros wit list.

During this, the Defense is accusing TM's father of cursing at a friend of GZ in the courtroom. Defense called the friend to the stand for questioning...the baldheaded Pros is on cross.

Of course they didn't get TM's father on the stand...ridiculous. Judge doesn't find it a big deal. She admonished everyone to keep their comments to themselves.

Argh. Missed most of the 911 op's testimony. Had to step out for the last 30 min...saw him walking into the room, but didn't know who he was.
