Leaving Monday on a Greyhound bus for Monterrey, Mexico, where I’ll catch a plane to Villahermosa, Mexico. I’ll be mostly concentrating on the state of Chiapas and northern Guatemala on my trip. I’d like to meet up with a missionary down there, but I don’t know them, so I’ll just show up (I’ve become quite Mexican in the way I do things the past couple of years ). If you guys know anyone down that way, I’d appreciate any info. I'll be traveling around mostly by third-class busses and hopefully taking Mayan language lessons in Guatemala. I have many ideas about what I’d like to do, but have deliberately not planned anything so as to have maximum flexibility. The bus ride to El Salvador isn’t that long, either…I understand a few people have connections down there.

I’ll be gone about 4 weeks. My lovely wife was planning to go, but decided to stay home a few weeks ago and decorate our baby’s room (doesn’t want to catch malaria!).

Pray for both of our safety and health….

Bro, pardon my ignorance. What is the purpose of your trip? Is it missions or leisure? I would soooo love to go sometime.

I have always flown back and forth. By the time you got all the paperwork and spent all that time on the road, it would definitely cost more than a plane ticket. If you survive, like you said.

Let's call my purpose investigative An eventual move to the region is not out of the question, and I like to know what I'm getting into. That encompasses all of the above.

I have not ruled out Belize, but it's not really in my plans. I'd love any information you could provide, though, about your contacts.

There is Brother Tim Joiner in Orange Walk, Belize. He is a personal friend of ours in fact we have been there to preach for him...We might be kinda like mentors to him ...young missionaries doing a good work.

I just read somewhere that 2/3 of Protestant Christians in Guatemala are Pentecostal/Charismatic - some type of Spirit filled.

Thanks, Sis. Alvear, I'll make a note of that.
