Specifically regarding your post, I don't think it's about God "promising the affections of another" in the sense of thwarting the free will of a third party. It's more about God revealing someone's future to them. Of course He knows whether or not that *third* someone eventually will have affection for a person, so if He wanted to reveal that then of course He could.

I will only add that I heard about someone walking up to a man at a conference, saying, "The Lord told me we should marry..."

To that the man said, "That's funny...I'm already married!"

I've always thought that some things come by the gift of discernment and some by the gift of suspicion.
