Most of your "Black" Choir music is either under the Jazz or Blues section.
For someone to say that a specific type of "Christian" music is carnal is a blatant lie. Hey even your "Holy Ghost Explosion" music can be placed into a Heavy Metal / Death Rock with their 6/8 measures and fast tempos.
I will say that it is the spirit of the music that is the main focus. There have been quite a few of popular "Christian" artists that limit the "Religious Words" in their music so they can easily switch over to secular industry.
Six pence none the richer?
Katy Perry?
Chris Rice?
Amy Grant?
Just to name a few.

I believe christain music can be "carnal", alot of this rock, rap etc.. is just brithed from not completely letting go of the world/flesh.

Re: My God! I feel Like Tellin' Sombody
There is a scene from Wayne World where Garth is imagining himself in a dentist chair getting worked on in the audience at a Kenny G concert. That is how I feel when forced to listen to the current crop of contemporary Christian music which has been around the last 15 years. It is a mixture of the most boring guitar strumming, a light drum beat, and unimaginative melodies of the worst kind.

Well, we might not hear the specific versions of the old days. But, creative worship leaders can take an old song, modernize it (especially for the younger generations), and there be a sweet presence of God just like back in the day.
For responses from others: as for worldly songs being sung in church...well, call it what you may. "You Are So Beautiful To Me" was sung accoustically on a Sunday morning after the Spirit started moving so powerfully. That song was the icing on the cake for me that day; after all, God is beautiful, everything I hoped for, and everything I need...
