I think he should hire a lawyer and sue the government for violating his civil rights.

Oh and by the way, I'm pretty sure authorizing the murder of an american citizen with presenting the burden of proof that he's a traitor or trying him in court is an impeachable offense by the President.
lol... Terrorist Lover! jkjk...

But my oh my how the tables have turned. All I can say is that if Bush had done this you'd be giving him a standing ovation right now.

Re: Mixed Feelings...

Well if we break Yemeni laws and even a few international ones... big deal. So you're saying it is OK for us to enter into a country illegally for purpose of assassination?

Besides all that is an aside. The issue at hand is "Can a President, any president, order the execution of an American citizen?"

To that I say "No". And that for any president, not just BHO. It makes for a very scary precedent.

As much as so many are hard on Bush, he didn't order John Lindh executed. He was tried and sentenced as an American.

I doubt it. I'm not that politically biased. The guy is an american citizen and does have rights ... unlike the other terrorist scumbags this admin has bent over backwards to give rights to.

And if he was in America or we had captured him in Afganisstan or Iraq then he would be sent back to America and tried and executed.

That's not the situation we are in though. He's not captured. He's not in a country where we can capture him.

We can't just go into that country and take him outa it and then try him because then it is clearly visible to the whole world that we dont care about other countries laws. Basically, it would incite the countries that dislike us and give them a reason to legitametely speak out against us.

So what should we do?

Could it be said that this administration is treating terrorists like citizens and citizens like terrorists? Hmmm. Thought provoking.

I'd be curious to know if it is an impeachable offense. Authorizing the death of a citizen without due process of law... this is far more serious than Clinton's perjury regarding his relationship with Monica. Wouldn't it be facinating if this brought PBHO down?

That does seem to be the case IF this is true.

Re: Mixed Feelings...

How would we view a traitor during time of war? Treason. Could they order the death of a traitor in time of war? I think that might be an angle that PBHO would defend himself from.

I understand that sometimes we have to get our hands dirty. But why authorize this so openly? I'd make it highly classified and send in some special ops to take him out. Then deny any knowledge of such operation. I know it would technically be a "lie"... but sadly that's how a government has to work sometimes. Like David pretending to be insane before his enemies, leaders have to pretend not to have knowledge of some things before their political enemies.

If anyone needs the blood... it's our politicians.

Firstly, we aren't loved over there and to make them think worse of us would be a hard thing to do.

But diplomacy could be tried. Request the Yemeni government to extradite a US citizen for trial. We are already giving them financial aid in their own war with terror. We could up the ante, or begin imposing sanctions.

But again, this is all an aside. The guy, scumbag though he may be, is our scumbag. And as such he has rights under the constitution that the executive branch has no right to remove from him.

It would have been no different than if Bill Clinton had authorized Tim McViegh to be hunted down and shot.

Geographical location does nothing to diminish the rights of a citizen who allegedly commits a crime. As a citizen the man has rights to due process no matter where he lives.

Re: Mixed Feelings...

I find this to be quite disturbing. An American President authorizing the killing of an American citizen without due process. Has this been done before?
