Re: Recommended Reading: Give Us Your Top 5
MP, your list would go well for the "Apostolic only" readers. You know, those who insist on only reading "Apostolic" writings. I mean, it's hard to read the writings of apostates otherwise. TIC Actually, your list is far more classic than any on here. For that, I've got to add some more "Classics":
Works by C.S. Lewis
Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged
Moby Dick
Quo Vadis
Steinbech's Grapes of Wrath

Grapes of Wrath... now that's a hard one to get started on, but has some fascinating concepts as it is reflected on. I haven't read the other four.
Did you mean MM? No one here is an MP...
My list wouldn't go well for the Apostolic only readers, actually. They'd probably burn The Rapture of Canaan and some possibly also Christianity without the Cross, and cook me in their flames...
You'll need to read The Traveler's Gift before deciding my stance on The Dreamers.

Re: Recommended Reading: Give Us Your Top 5
Wow, some good stuff here.
When I saw the title of this thread, I thought, "What 5 books would I recommend?" I don't even know. It's difficult to pick out just 5.
Some I would recommend (and why) are:
(note, these are not in order of importance)
"They Speak With Other Tongues" by John and Elizabeth Sherrill, copyright 1964. This book is based on research into the phenomenon of "speaking with tongues" as it seemed to re-appear in Christianity back in the days of the Charismatic Movement. The author was on the staff of Guide Posts Magazine. I think it is a fair treatment of the subject
"Experiencing the Spirit" by Robert Heidler copyright 1998. I have recommended this book along with "They Speak With Other Tongues" to several people who had questions about the Holy Spirit Baptism and the issue of speaking with tongues.
"The Winds of God" by Ethel Goss. This is one of the few books that I have read more than once. It is a history of early Pentecost from 1900 until the formation of the Assemblies of God organization. It does not cover Oneness Pentecost nor their split with the Assemblies of God.
"The Phenomenon of Pentecost" by Frank Ewart. This is a history of the Pentecostal movement from 1900 on into the revelation of Jesus Name baptism.
"The Cross and the Switchblade" by David Wilkerson. This is a classic. This book along with "They Speak With Other Tongues" brought enlightenment to a lot of folks some years back about what God was doing in the church world. This book gets into the street with drug addicts and gangs and shows what God can do to save/salvage/change/clean up people who come to Him. It can get your eyes off religion and churchianity and turn them to God and His love and His power.
For church history I would recommend the little book by Bro. Samuel McClain called "Highlights in Church History." Bro. McClain was a pioneer in the Pentecostal Movement and taught at the UPC Bible School in Tupelo, Mississippi many years ago. I think the book has been re-released under a different name now and "sanitized" a little by the UPC to better reflect the current party line. It is brief and maybe simplistic but I think it gives a good overview of Church history.
For the "Godhead" I would recommend "Is Jesus in the Godhead Or Is the Godhead in Jesus?" by Gordon Magee. Again, a small book, maybe a little simplistic, but, (in my opinion) a simple explanation of Oneness as believed and taught by many.
Of course I would recommend "Christianity Without the Cross" for anyone who wants to know more about our Oneness or Apostolic or UPC or whatever you want to call it heritage and history.
As you can see, most of these books are not "deep" or written for theologians but I think they will give a good picture of who we are and what we believe.

Re: Recommended Reading: Give Us Your Top 5
Power Evangelism by John Wimber
The Normal Christian Life by Watchman Nee
The Normal Christian Birth by David Pawson
The Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren
Houses that Change the World by Wolfgang Simson
I am also a big fan of AW Tozer, reading some of his stuff now.
Anybook by Jack Deere, he has the ability to contend for the spirit without leaving the grounding of the text. I appreciate that.
Had a good friend recommend Keller's book Prodigal God. Looking forward to reading it.

The other two are bonus material....

If you notice... mine are not from a 3 step perspective. Though I agree with 3 step theology which is actually 2. The listed above is more about overall perspective of how we relate to God from a basis standpoint. The above books really challenge Reformed thought and much of Protestant dogma of the day. Most of these books are on the technical side as well.

I live about 5 miles from the labor camp depicted in the book (Weedpatch camp) and it is still there, in use by farm laborers. Of course there is a section that is maintained for historical preservation, but the camp itself is currently in use!
