Re: Rough Day -

I am sorry to read about all of those kind folks let go but I am glad your job and your son's job is secure.

BTW, I did not know you had a son, or did I simply forget?

Please don't tell me that I forgot that I met him too!

Thanks Jermyn!

No, you didn't met my son while you were here.

Having to watch friends you've worked with for over 16 years walk out the door was heart-retching!

Glad it's over.

Praying for all those affected.
I am sorry for those whose lives are being thrown into transition and uncertainty. It is some comfort that we can pray.

If the heaviness continues in your spirit, we could all try and turn this into a shoe discussion...but maybe even that should be in another thread...to honor those who are facing this heaviness.

Have been thru two plant closings with my husband - was not pleasant, to say the least. But God always made a way and the next job wa better than the one before. The transition is unsettling, but will pray for those who need jobs to find them quickly. Saw in today's news that Tennessee's unemployment rate has gone over 10%.

Re: Rough Day -

Signs of the times is right. It isn't good for anyone, and I will keep those affected in my prayers.

My husband's employer is letting 150 people go the first of July.

All employees were given a letter yesterday about a "forced vacation" that they will be given in early September-- supposedly it's going to be the four days following Labor Day. The last time they did this, it stretched into about two weeks. Because they are calling it a "vacation closing" they can't qualify for temporary unemployment-- whether or not they are able to receive vacation pay. Most people in this area live from paycheck to paycheck-- and at least they gave them some warning it's coming, but I just have this feeling that this isn't going to be the end of the layoffs.

Re: Rough Day -

Our company has had 3 major temporary layoffs this year, with countless being let go...9 techs and engineers walked out the door just 2 weeks ago.

We are shutdown for a week in July and again sometime in August. We build circuit boards for GM, Ford, Chrysler, and Mazda, so you can see how touchy our jobs are right now...

That's tough! I'm sorry.
