If this was a stand alone quip, it would be different. But there is at least once more where it is documented where she said something very similar.

I also agree with you that if a white guy had made the equivalent statement he would be through.

Rightfully so.

Just because Ms. Sotomayor says it doesn't make it right. IMO, sh'e just as wrong and she does not have my support.

But there are other minorities that will fall all over her because of her statements.

Those same folks are the ones who (if you were to talk to them) I bet are folks who dwell on the fact they are "minority".

I got far too many more pressing problems than to be dwelling on that, though some folks make it difficult to forget it (at times).

Being part of what everyone considers the majority, I can not know what those in the minority deal with. BUT, I can tell you what it feels like when you are constantly reminded that your life can not be nearly as bad as theirs because you are not part of the minority. As if being part of the majority made my life more special and like I had some free pass to things they did not. GOT NEWS for those folk, my life was has been no bowl of ice cream just because I am a white male. I have lost positions I put in for because I was a white male. How do I know? The same way those who know they did not get it because they were black or hispanic know. I did actually have a resume and application returned to me because I was a white male. They even stated it was because I was a white male and they were in need of minority. HOW FAIR WAS THAT? Not very in my opinion. I was qualified I should have had the same shot as everyone else. Do think anyone would have taken up my cause? Not on your life.

I am so against any law that gives a 'right' to anyone based on anything other than they are a human being. Laws on the books need to be reworded to be non-gender specific and color blind. Laws should apply to everyone no matter what. When you start saying we are an equal opportunity employer and then ask me what my race, orientation, or gender is so that you can keep statistics than I do not believe you. If you were blind to all that then you would NOT ask me the questions. I am almost to the point where I think interviews should be done with blindfolds on so that neither one can see the other and they can base it upon the sound of the voice, the answers given, and the resume information.

okay I am off my soap box now.

no offense meant to anyone. just wanted to put my 2 cents worth in. =)

I live in a city called Forest Park. Forest Park is the third largest city in Hamilton County, Ohio, with approximately 19,463 residents in 7,505 households. We are located only 14 miles north of downtown Cincinnati, 35 miles south of Dayton, and within 125 miles of Columbus, Indianapolis, Louisville, and Lexington. I don't remember the exact figures but I think in the 2000 census we were about 36 percent Caucasian and 59 percent African American, so I am a minority in my city. We have a 7 member City Council which is broken down as follows:
2 African American men (one is mayor)
3 African American women
2 Caucasian women

So Sam, when are you running for public office?

Really, I find it shocking that there is a place in America where white males or at least A white male is not part of the governing body.

Thinking about it, I don't think that I have ever lived in a town or city like that.... ever, well not including my time in the military. I don't think there are any white males in the governing body of any province of Japan or Korea!

In a pefect world things would be perfect.

Even if what you want is done, humans would find a way to be "preferential".

For example, most of the time, I can tell by the voice of the person I am speaking with whether or not they are white, black, hispanic, or asian. This goes with males and females.

I can also tell if I am talking with an overweight person, but I've had more success in picking out overweight females vs overweight males when it comes to voice recognition.

Overweight ladies have the most sensually alluring voices....

Someone said: "Go for those overweight females!!!"

They are softer and more squeezable.
There is more to love.
And you can have heat in the winter and shade in the summer.
