I do an exercise program that incorporates some Yoga stances. There is no meditation involved. You actually have to count out loud to make sure you are not holding your breath, which many people do while exercising.
The purpose is to allow oxygen flow through your body.
Nothing wrong with using some of the exercises. Going too far, as with anything, is not a good thing.

Re: Is it ok for a Christian to enroll in a yoga c
yiou can make sin out of anything ,, like eating to much .. nothing wrong with doing yoga type things if ur not involved with pagan worship. i took martial arts for yrs and still bounce in for a few classes here and there just to see whats new going on. as i am good friends with the teacher he allows me too lol. i have neveer worshipped anything but jesus ,,i been preaching since 1982,,,,aint a spot on my record anywhere that someone can point at and say i dont live by the bible , i pastor and have a descent sized church and growing . my focus is on getting closer to god. said all that to say this . nothing can seperate you from god unless u allow it to. exercise profits little the bible says but it will keep you healthy and living longer if you do it!you want to do yoga go ahead just check the place out 1st pray about it , but always put JESUS 1st!

Yogurt can be a sin, especially if you eat too much of it.

Re: Is it ok for a Christian to enroll in a yoga c
I've taken yoga classes that weren't geared toward any "spiritual" goal. They primarily focused on proper breathing, muscle control, and relaxation techniques. It was nice really and I felt much peace.
Most of you have already performed some form of yoga. For example, believe or not, the push-up has it's roots in the ancient dand exercise that was popular among the Pehlwani wrestlers of ancient India.

I think you need to determine that for yourself. I have mixed feelings about it. I used to do yoga a lot, because the gentle stretching movements are just wonderful. I feel uncomfortable with guided meditation, although I think independent meditation and deep breathing is probably fine.
A good compromise might be pilates which incorporates a lot of the same principles of movement without any of the religious influences.

Re: Is it ok for a Christian to enroll in a yoga c
From that I learned, Yoga has no physical benefit but is intended to "spiritually" provide peace and harmony in the body to affect the soul. It is based upon the YIN YANG principle of evil and good, light and darkness, being balanced. That is dualism, and is error.
