Does it ever come to mind to you that there are times in a persons life when they are preparing to get married, move in different directions as far as all aspects of their lives, that they find that they need different things. Different people to impact their lives and its then they step away and work to strengthen those parts of their lives to make a new beginning for themselves... Now there are chances that he left for other reasons yes, but more than likely just needed time to form his new life...
I know that there have been things in my own life that have changed. Circumstances and priorities that have changed that have made me to see that even though I still value the friendships I have made here just as much as I have always esteemed them that I have things that are much more needy of my time and I just cannot give the time I once did to this place. Its no bad "mark" on AFF for anyone who wants to leave for these reasons or really any reason but a mark of integrity that they may want to go and do things to better themselves.
Mark in other words to make this simpler I think Dan just needed time away and it more than likely has nothing to do with a conspiracy theory.
