Will it hurt him? Probably not. African Americans get by with stuff that white folks can't get by with. African Americans can make very racist statements and can take very racist positions, and their churches can be very political. If white folks tried this they would be pummeled in the Media, would have to resign any position they held, would have to apologize over and over again publicly, and the local church would probably lose its tax exempt status.
You make some great points here in both paragraphs.

But in response to the first paragraph, how does it look when Obana's former church gave the leader of the Nation of Islam- Louis Farrakhan an award??

Re: Will Obama's Pastor Be His Down Fall?

Wright retired a few months ago. He was Obama's pastor for over 20 years. He married them, baptized their girls, and preached to him twice a week for all that time. If you read the church web site, you'll see what he's been preaching all this time. If you don't agree with what a preacher believes, you generally won't be that close for 20 years. The fact he retired doesn't change his beliefs for two decades. If a white church preached what they preach, they would be crucified. Obama's two books and his wife's college thesis shows that they agree mostly with Wright.

Obama's church states they hold the "Nation of Islam" in high regard and their leader is the "model" blacks should pattern themselves after.

In the months leading up to the election, the Republicans, talk radio, the conservative blogs, etc, will make sure America is reminded of Rev Jeremiah Wright and his words. This could come back to haunt Obama.
I have heard on Christian radio and have seen it on web sites that the Republicans have videos of Wright speaking, transcripts of sermons, and God knows what else just waiting for Obama to get the nomination. It won't be pretty. It probably won't change many black's minds but many get a reaction from whites who support him. The key may be how many of the young kids the Republicans can get to listen.

I agree!

Like I said on the other thread, like my husband said last night--now we know where Denise Obama's remark "this is the first time I felt proud of my country" came from-

It's laughable to me for Obama to act like he was unaware of his Pastors remarks, we all know what our Pastor's believe and what they say ect. Pastors often repeat whats on their hearts many times, it would be a rare event if my pastor acted out of character just when I happened NOT to be there.
