I don't like playing stand-up keyboards.

If you stand up at the keyboard and play...since you have to use your right foot to go up and down on the pedal...that puts all your weight on your left foot. Is that a problem for anyone? I'm finding that my left foot is starting to hurt when I play for a while.
I try to switch which foot I use to do the pedal...but it's not helping much.
i don't want to sit down and play...I feel like I do better standing.
I'm just curious if this is a problem for anyone ... or maybe it's just me!

becky I am having the same problem only with my right knee
i think it does indeed stem from playing whiel standing. however, i don't know what else to do since i have to lead worship- It's hard to sit and sing and also belt the notes out(for me anyways). I wonder if a knee brace would help while we are playing ?

what about one of those mats like some retail and hospitality businesses use. It's thick and is supposed to absorb the stress of standing on hard surfaces for a long time. I know they are pricey, but not so much for the small ones. They are like regular floor mats, but thicker and they take the stress off your lower back and legs when standing for long periods of time.
I'll find more info...

anti-fatigue mats..
you can usually find them at food supply houses, hotel supplier, uniform suppliers like Aramark or something.
They make them for "home" now, but they are HIGH...

I have the same problem, especially in heels, and since the keyboard is clearly visible, I don't have the option of taking my shoes off. Although, one Sunday it was so bad, I took them off when I came off the platform and walked to the back with my pretty shoes in my hand! So much for keeping up appearances! LOL!!!
I end up just having to switch feet, back and forth.
The barstool suggestion is a good one, just for leaning...but it would have to be the perfect height, otherwise it would be difficult to balance, reach the pedal, and keep your skirt down all at the same time.
I definitely prefer to sit at the baby grand and play...well, I just like that piano better anyway.
Thaddy-boy, you can belt notes sitting--IF you sit up straight!!!! Posture, posture.

Get a good pair of shoes to start with... I also had this problem, and with no shoes you have no support... I finally started playing without using the peddle. When I lead into a song, I use the peddle, and after the other musicians join in, they help smooth it all out... I can forget about the peddle then.

1. Buy a stool that has a back to it and that you can raise and lower, my wife uses one of these, it is made just for keyboardists.
OR
2. Be REALLY cool and learn to play guitar like I did!!!!!!!

I really appreciate the feedback i got on this thread.
Theresa, i will look into those mats....
I haven't really thought about playing without the pedal...maybe I should experiment with that. Thanks revalationists!
I will try the ideas mentioned...it's somewhat comforting to know I'm not the only one with this problem!
Monkeyman, I play a little guitar...but I don't know any fancy chords...just the basics...i do luv me some acoustic guitar though...That's one of the reasons I'm a Paul Baloche fan!
Thanks everyone else too for your responses...when I find what works for me, I'll post a follow up! God Bless!
