I haven't read this entire thread so this may already have been touched on...

But... if this is true... then over time opinion will finally begin to change towads beards and then it will be said...

"Well... we never said it was a sin."

Since there has never been any bible to preach against it preachers have preached against it on the basis of "rebellion" or it being a hippie thing.

It is probably the one "standards" issue that I have seen logic prevail on in a slow methodical way over the last 20 years.

That would be the case here, but I'm not complaining.

We never made it an issue in any of the churches we pastored. It wouldn't have been smart to have done so either. There are lots of important boundaries to set and places to draw the line. "Facial hair" certainly isn't one of them in my opinion.

This is where we get into putting yokes on people that are unnecessary. There's no scriptural backup for such a prohibition whatsoever. None!

Here is the logic I heard preached growing up in the UPC;

1. Hippies and non conformists wear mustaches and beards. They are rebellious people.

2. Pentecostal men with facial hair are identifying themselves with the rebellious

3. Rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft

4. Hence Pentecostal men with facial hair are as bad as witches!!

There is just so much wrong with that logic, I don't even know where to begin, so I won't.
