I don't believe this is inconsistant at all. I use internet mainly for only a few things. I look at this forum to keep up with the liberal wing of pentecost, I take online classes, and I buy books on ebay. I don't break any Articles of Faith stands by doing so. Whoever said that the push/pull principle doesn't work is wrong. I look at only those things that I want to see. I have no fear of some junk just pooping up, I have pop-up blockers and an internet filter for that. Again we're back to the fact that liberals will use any excuss possible to justify watching TV. If you watch TV that's fine with me, it doesn't bother me at all. Go ahead, watch wifeswap, southpark, baywatch re-runs, anything you want, I don't have a problem with you doing so unless you are a UPC minister. TV pushes that junk on you, but I do have to pull tht junk out of the internet.
I have a channel blocker built in to my TV. I use it to block out all those channels that I don't like. I watch sports and news.
I can justify my TV as well as you can justify using the internet. We are both right in our own eyes. Are you more spiritual because you use the internet, but don't watch TV? You probably think you are!

That is my thing. I can see OP_Carl's point... I don't deny that this is an issue. But to me, if I take that train of thought, I have to also apply the same logic to radio, printed media and the internet.
You can't condemn a technology because of some or even MOST of the content that is available on it... (thinking internet here again)....
The eyes are the window of our soul, and we are admonished to set no evil thing before them.
There is a good deal of data out there that says that moving visual images are more stimulating to the brain, and therefore have the potential to become more influencial or more traumatic.

I just ran across this interesting rule in the manual (this is in Section 3 - Services)...
Quote:
2. We do not approve of plays, pantomimes, or similar programs given merely for entertainment.
I realize that they have the caveat "merely for entertainment" and you can make up some spiritual reasoning for just about any performance... but I don't see people calling preachers liars and demanding they turn in their cards if they have a play or pantomime in the church. I expect that I will not receive a response to this post... but dem are de fax.

"Merely for entertainment" means if you don't follow with an alter call!
