Re: Former Memphis area pastor preaching a confere

Well, these family members stick together sometimes. Do not believe that family members still in UPC are backing this up and probably not approving of this conference engagement either. Just an opinion of a person who knows the family for many years.

Blood is thicker than water!

The beauty of it for TB is that if he ends up deciding to tack right rather than left he can explain away that speaking engagement as being a "family thing". On the other hand if he tacks liberal this could be his launching pad.

"We did not wear uniforms. The lady workers dressed in the current fashions of the day, ...silks...satins...jewels or whatever they happened to possess. They were very smartly turned out, so that they made an impressive appearance on the streets where a large part of our work was conducted in the early years.

"It was not until long after, when former Holiness preachers had become part of us, that strict plainness of dress began to be taught.

"Although Entire Sanctification was preached at the beginning of the Movement, it was from a Wesleyan viewpoint, and had in it very little of the later Holiness Movement characteristics. Nothing was ever said about apparel, for everyone was so taken up with the Lord that mode of dress seemingly never occurred to any of us."

He must have signed up for the "Restoration Express" package. "90 days or less and we guarantee you will be back in the pulpit. No apologies or confession needed!"
Probably more like the Marian Barry "I got caught with pot and a hooker but STILL got reelected a year later!" plan.

Re: Former Memphis area pastor preaching a confere

It does not appear to be clear at this time which direction he is taking as far as one can tell, but time will tell. Do not understand that he is qualified to expound on being restored at this early point, whether a relative, close friend or whatever is encouraging him to do so. God forgives if one is contrite, but contrition would lead one to be humble about their actions, etc. and be willing to sit down for a good while and show that they had a truly repentent heart before God and man.

TB thought restoration took about 6 months. Well ... that is what his standard of "punishment" was for anyone who was in any form of leadership when they did "wrong." Well ... for most anyway.

The fact that he would be used in any form or format at this point in time is utterly ridiculous and an insult to the people of TPC, and the Lord for that matter.

Looks like I was right about him having the special "Express" restoration. I remember when Jim Bakker fell Jimmy Swaggart made a big deal about telling reporters that their org., the AOG, and a process of restoration that Bakker should subject himself to.

Then of course a short time later when it was Swaggart himself being caught in adultery he left the AOG rather than submit to their restoration process.
