IMO, and the way I perceived the post, is that it was referencing the soldier as not being an inanimate object, as though he had no part to play.

The obvious point to me is that The commander and the solider that followed orders played equal parts in this.

As far as going in and toppling Saddam's regime, it was a mission accomplished. Notice, he doesn't speak about himself, alone.
