Thad, this makes some sense...considering that there is one less service to "give". See my example above.

Sunday AM: $5600
Sunday PM: $3000

well according to Every poster so far, they are in sharpe disagreement with this.
how do you know all this ?

SoCali,
If those folks giving are members who typically attended both services then why wouldn't they give in the one service they now go to? Makes no sense to me.
It is not as if the church shut down a service and all of the people that went to that service now no longer attend that church. They are there and going to the AM service and should be giving there.

I mean are people so ill taught that they don't think they still need to tithe or give offerings just because they have gone to one service on Sunday?
Either that figure is wrong or something else is going on at that church.

I read it differently, CC1. I could be wrong, but I thought Thad said that the giving went down when they stopped the other service. It would make sense that the usual money that came in with that second service dropped...is not coming in anymore. Right? One less opportunity to give, perhaps.

Instead of putting in tithes in the morning and offerings in the evening, wouldn't they give it all at once?
|
I guess I am misunderstanding what is being presented.
I would say yes people give...but I don't think people split their giving 50-50 between AM and PM service. I don't think people go into a service and say, today I am going to give in the offering (I am not talking tithes) $30. So, in the AM service I am going to give $15 and the PM service I am going to give $15. I just don't think people do this. I think people give what they normally give each service.

I was just trying to conceptualize what was being presented. Trying to make an example to speak from.....maybe I am just overanalyzing it.

Are you saying that people are not giving anymore? I guess I read it wrong.
Yes...if someone goes to the AM and PM services and gives $$ in each service. Church cuts the PM service. That someone now only goes to the AM service...however, with no PM service there is not another "opportunity" to give. That person is still giving...just one less service to give in. Makes it more clearer...or am I really not reading the situation right?

The kind of money numbers you were throwing around sounded more like tithe money than an offering.
Do churches really take in $5,000 of just offering in a typical Sunday morning service? That seems really high to me.
I could see offerings being down a small percentage as people might just give the same amount in the one service as they gave twice, each of both services, before.

I threw that number out because Thad said MAJOR. (lololol!)
Let's take CLC for a moment...as that is a church mentioned. They have a huge ministerial staff....office staff....Christian school (not Bible school). All of these are paid by the church and dependent on the church to give. You take a regular church offering (what usually comes in) and that is what the church budgets. You cut a service from the regular schedule...you still have all the salaries to pay, with one less service (4 a month) to garner money from. From my example...that is $12,000 a month (if you cut the PM service out). When you have some MAJOR overhead...that is a lot of money to impact finances at the church from what is normally budgeted. Makes any more sense...or should I just give up!? lol.

I loved it up here! We had -20 weather and lots of snow. It's beautiful now. One of the most unusual things (for me ) was to see most of the church show up one Sunday morning after an incredible snow, riding their snowmobiles.... Twas very funny. But you won't see me ever doing that. I'm one of those who just aint gonna get her hair messed up!

I did not realize that one must be in a church service ot be in the presence of God. I guess, because His Spirit lives within me, I am always in His presence.
