Oh my lord - - those revivals were horrendous!!!! He was in a 6-8 revival while I was in Bible school and you were expected to go to every service AND keep up with school. It was awful!
And...you were scared to miss because a train would hit you on the way home from work.
let me just say that guy still isnt on my Christmas card list.

Something like that happened at Ark Youth Camp too. He was preaching about the lord coming back and the tumpet will sound and the train (tracks right by the tabernacle) BLEW it's horn and many ran to the altar!
I just remember laughing......guess I was too smart for my own good cause I knew it was the train.

I’ve told this before but it is worth repeating… and kind of funny now that I am 40….
When I was a kid we had TFT preach a revival series on Revelations. Obviously this was all the rage in those days and TFT was NEVER a fear preacher.
Nor was this really that kind of thing. But it sure had that tension of the looming rapture in it. Anyway after several service of this the place was packed out and the last night he was preaching on the rapture. It was crazy packed with the balcony full and everything.
Anyway as he was preaching a storm was building up outside and TFT was really going hard and all the sudden he screams “In the twinkling of an EYE!” as he snaps his fingers…… and at that exact second…. And I mean that exact second, lightening struck and knocked the electricity out!
I kid you not, at the exact second he says this in reference to Jesus coming back, there is this massive BOOM outside and the place goes pitch black!
It was absolute Pandemonium. People literally jumped down from the balcony and ran to the alter. There were injuries. I mean real ones. One lady ended up needing stitches in her lip because some other woman with long fingernails was going nuts and her nail slashed the other ladies lip.
I just remember finding my mom in that chaos and knowing all was well. Mamma goes in the rapture so if she was here, I was still safe.
That was nuts.
ROFL!!!!!
My aunt used tell me about a prayer meeting they had at her church where the one of the teenage boys crawled into the baptism tank and waited for a really high point of the prayer to blow on a trumpet....

Im telling you it was the craziest thing. I know it wasnt a set up as half the town went black and even TFT cant control lightening. But EGADS.

I was raised with that whole fear stuff too... I used to listen for my father to snore... I was positive that if the rapture happened, dad would make it...as long as he snored, I could sleep. I was petrified to sleep where I couldn't hear him, and I rarely stayed with friends when young unless I knew the parent was "saved" and I stayed close.
I am very cautious by nature...and was kept by fear (or should I say intimidation) but so glad that I finally come to know him for who he truly is.... in my 30's. In many ways it makes me very sad that I wasn't raised to love and trust him as I do now without fear... I feel I missed out on many years of a loving relationship with God.

I wonder if this is the actual event which, after a few retellings, turned into God sending lighting down and splitting the alter?

NO!
That was Richard Heard and Tommy Tenny was there, but it was Richard Heard behind the pulpit, not altar.
